Explain briefly six (6) mobile and wireless devices
(a) (i) Explain briefly three (3) multipath propagation effects
(ii) Discuss extensively four (4) propagation mechanisms affecting the mobile radio wave

(b) Consider an indoor wireless LAN with f c =1800 MHz , cells of radius 10m and non-
directional antenna with gain Gl=1. Under free space path loss model:
(i) Calculate the transmit power required at the access point such that all terminals
within the cell receive a minimum power of 10 µw,
(ii) How does this change if the system frequency is 5 GHz?

(C) Maximum excess delay.

(iii) Differentiate between small scale and large-scale fading
(c) A transmitter that radiates a sinusoidal carrier frequency of 1850 MHz is located along
the part of a vehicle moving at 26.82 m/s, compute the received carrier frequency if the
mobile is moving:
(i) Directly towards the transmitter
(ii) Directly away from the transmitter
(iii) In a direction which is perpendicular to the direction of arrival of the
transmitted signal.

(c) (i) State and explain the various classes of fading in time varying channel.
(ii) Given that the carrier frequency and speed of a mobile unit are 1900 MHz and 50
m/s, respectively. Determine the proper spatial sampling interval required to make
small-scale propagation measurements, which assume that consecutive samples
are correlated in time.
