How to Launch a Linux VCAP

Intermediate Oracle Linux Training Program

Upon completion of this activity, you will have a

Linux VCAP that mimics the unreleased
Simphony Linux image. This VCAP will then be
used, in coordination with the exercise files
provided by LinkedIn Learning, to complete the
activities associated with the course assigned in
part 3 of this program.

If you have any issues or questions about this

VCAP, please visit the #sup-hosp-fnb-vcap
Slack channel.

STEP 2: LAUNCH LINUX VCAP

To launch your Linux VCAP, you will need to download TigerVNC Viewer and WinSCP from myDesktop. You cannot launch
a Linux VCAP using Remote Desktop Connection.
When viewing your VCAP machine, expand the DETAILS section to view the VNC Access information. It will show you the
following information:
 Hostname – Used to launch the machine using TigerVNC Viewer where <IP/machine_name> is the Hostname
found under MACHINES
 Username – Will be blank
 Password – The password you will use to log in to the machine

The actual Hostname will be found under the MACHINES section in the format of celvpvmXXXXX.us.oracle.com.

STEP 3: PREPARE LINUX VCAP

Once launched, the Oracle Linux 7.5 VCAP will appear different than a Simphony Linux machine as it will not have a
Graphical User Interface (GUI), or desktop. Follow these steps to setup the machine so that it will look similar to the proposed
Simphony Linux environment.

1. When the machine is launched in TigerVNC Viewer, it will be locked. Press the Enter key to unlock it and enter
the machine password found under DETAILS.

If you see the red desktop with Home, Trash and Template_Information.txt, you can skip this step.
