MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

Program: MBA

Project Guidelines

As part of the curriculum and Completion of the Post Graduate Degree, the learner will submit
the Project Report in their specific specialization area through online mode. This project will be
assessed by University experts.

1. Significance of a Project Report

This is fundamentally not the case as many projects are graded well below their potential because
of an indifferent or poor write-up. In order to acquire the right balance, a learner should consider
the aim behind making a good project.
It provides the opportunity for a learner to demonstrate independence and originality, to plan and
organize the project work, and to put into practice some of the techniques a learner has been
taught throughout the program.

2. Project Work
Learners would investigate a topic in-depth, gather information and explain it, seek challenges if
any after investigation, the methods used to solve the problem, the results of the investigation
and the conclusions inferred, and a set of recommendations that can be implemented.
The project can be descriptive of existing systems/prevailing conditions of the research topic. In
exploratory research, an investigation of a topic by adding new features to an existing system
and drawing conclusions and projections.
In simple words, a project can be understood as mentioned:

• A practice of verification or demonstration of concepts or hypotheses or processes

learned.
• A technique of self-learning, learning by doing that is increasing practical value.
• The purpose of the project is not to generalize but to study the situation with a practical
orientation.
3. Selection of Project Topic
Project Topic: A study project may be related to an organization. While working on a project, it
is possible to conduct a comparative study of several organizations. A project should ideally be
carried out in the organization where the learner works.
Before beginning the Project report study, the learner should identify the problem to be studied
and be familiar with the subject under study by reading material about the intended study.
Learners should check their access to study materials, data, and references.
Literature Review: A review of the Literature, i.e., the studies that have been done thus far, and
the topics studied, will provide the learner with a comprehensive view of which area of study is
lacking or has a gap.
The project can be selected in various ways:
• This enables a learner to select the area of study that is most recent and has the most
application value.
• This information can be acquired by reading periodicals and recent publications.
• Take the necessary permission from the current employer if he/she intends to
• Conduct the study in the organization he/she is working.
• As a case study can select his own organization in which he/she is employed or choose
some other organization or could take up an industry vertical. Select a
company/organization/institute concerned
• Project Guide: Projects can be guided by any Post Graduate degree holder with/without a
Doctorate Degree working in an academic institution (preferably teaching MBA / Management
course) or a person working in the managerial cadre in any industrial / business organization
NGO or similar like. Learners must take advice and suggestions from their guides from time to
time and get certified for their Certificate for completing the project report.
• Consult experts in the field of specialization to make the right choice of the subject
• Study various articles/newsletters etc. appearing in daily, weekly, and monthly
magazines to look for the desired topic.
• Discussions with the relevant firm may help select a proper topic.

Example: The title should include 1-2 keywords, and these keywords should be within the first
65 characters of the title

5. Research Methodology to Project Work

SCOL allows learners to take up any topic of their interest and choice for project work. However,
learners should bear in mind that the project topic should be relevant to their area of
specialization only. SCOL gives the liberty of learner to choose any topic relevant to a learner’s
specialization.
For example, the learners of MBA (Marketing) should carry out their project work only in the
functional areas of Marketing.
Note: If the learner submits a project which is not relevant to his/her specialization, then
the project will not be evaluated and the learner will be treated as a failure.
