5. HANDLING AND STORAGE

On receipt of the cables, wires and accessories at site necessary precautions shall be
taken for unloading shifting and storage as follows.

5.1 material shall be stored in a covered dry space at all times

5.2 All materials received at site shall be inspected and ensured that the materials are as
per approved material submittal.

5.3 any discrepancies damage etc found will be notified and reported for further action

5.4 Material found not suitable for use will be removed from site immediately

7. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Step 1

 Ensure that the work area is ready and safe to start the installation of cables and
wires
 Ensure that cables and wires installation is carried out in accordance to
manufactireres installation recommendations, requirement, of applicable standards
and in accordance with recognized industrial practises and specified in project
specification to ensure that installation complies with requirements.
 Prior to start the installation refer to the approved shop drawings related to the area
of installation and ensure that required materials are available at site store. All
materals and accessories should also be free of dust scale or oil
 Ensure that the issued materials are of approved specification submittals and as per
the requirements of the area shop drawings
 Care shall be taken to avoid direct exposure to solar radiation in storage area and at
installed area.
 Wrenches shall not be used to pull cables
 Don’t install through joints in cables
 Don’t avoid route cables below water services pipework

Doc No: CONSTR 002 Rev. 0 Page 3 of 13 Date: 24 May 2016

 The total cable route shall be inspected to ensure that the routing is complete either
on ground or on cable trays, as per approved layout and free from any shrp edges or
shrp objects.
 As per cable cutting schedule, site electrical supervisor will ensure that the cable
drums are shifted to the correct location where cabling has to start for any particular
feeder.
 The trays shall be curved enough at the right angles to allow to lay the cables with
correct bending radius with out any sharp bends, knits
 Where more power cables run together, adequate cable tray should be provided
considering the spacing of their specifications. Spaced apart by at least one cble
diameter
 Cable rollers shall be placed inside each trench in line and angle rollers shall be used
at all turning points of the trench.
 Cable laying shall be started by rotating the drum in a direction recommended by the
manufacture and as indicated on the drums. The site supervision team shall ensure
the undue stress on pull is not applied to the cable while laying the cable.
 Cables shall be identified at both ends and in between convenience intervals on riser,
identification bands as per approved material and approved cable schedule.
 Cables shall be dressed properly, secure cables to cable trays using straps, heavy
duty ties where where the cables are fixed to a vertical tray. Ensure that the cables
distances is maintained as per the shop drawing. And general engineering practices.
 Earth shall be laid parallel along with cable and tide along with cable at suitable
intervals.
 Where cables passes through a floor or wall sealing material should be provided and
that the area should be sealed properly from both sides
 On completion of cable laying and dressing continuity and insulation resistance test
shall be carried out and shall be recorded. Cable ends shall be sealed properly till the
glanding and termination
 All conductors requiring bolted connection shall be terminated with compression lugs
using an automatic compression crimping and termination
 Cable lugs shall be tinned copper compression type
 Insulation test to be carried out after installation and before termination of cables
 After approval by consultant for the laying of cables and mergering test results shall
be submitted

Doc No: CONSTR 002 Rev. 0 Page 4 of 13 Date: 24 May 2016

 Crimped terminations shall be used for cable above 6mm and pinch screw should not
be used
 Cables termination and connections shall be done by experienced electrical
technician under the supervisor of site engineer

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE FOR WIRES

 Ensure that the cabling wiring is being installed as per approved drawings

 All the containment system checked for thoroughness and cleanliness all along the
circuit
 All the routing or wiring is to be drawn from respective distribution boards to point of
utilization and is looped from live and netral terminals of accessories for circuit
continuation as per the approved shop drawings
 Final connections in luminaries and heat producing or emitting equipment shall be
made using heat resistant flexible cables
 The specified wire sizes to be followed as per approved load schedule or shop
drawings
 Ensure that proper color coding is followed for phase, neutral, earth wires as per
standard electrical codes and respective approved shop drawings and specifications
 Ensure that each circuit is being neatly dressed or bunched at intervals
 After dressing of wires, provide the respective circuit ferrules at the ends at phase,
neutral and bar ends
 The cable or wires should not be jointed, those should be continuous
 Wires shall not exceed the capacity of the conduit or trunking, the installations shall
comply strictly by following the standard rules and regulations
 Wires shall be combined as installation proceeds and the neutral, earth conductor
shall be run with the phase wires of that circuit
 Wires of one circuit shall run in the same conduit
 Each wires of the circuit running in the trunking shall be grouped together with cable
ties
 Do not install wiring of more than one phase in an outlet box or switch box other than
one designated for multi phase use
 The color coding of wires or cables shall be followed till the termination within
distribution boards and equipments

 Wires shall be tested with 500 v insulation tester before and after installation, after
marking off all the wires
 Test results should be submitted to the consultant for approval and records
