Cumulative Updates:
What are they?
• Cumulative updates are collections of security
updates, critical updates, and other updates
packaged together for convenience.
• For Microsoft Windows, a cumulative update
represents a single package that includes many
updates, including improvements and fixes from
previous updates.
• Released each month on the second Tuesday
3
Why a massive
single package?
• Cumulative updates also aim to
reduce problems related to
update dependency and
installation issues.
• The cumulative update contains
all necessary updates in the
correct order.

updates.

Manually
1. Manually Download and Install the Update: If
Windows Update is still failing, you can manually
download and install the update from the Microsoft
Update Catalog:
• Visit the Microsoft Update Catalog website
(https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/).
• Search for the specific update by its KB number
(e.g., KB1234567).
• Download the appropriate update for your
system architecture (e.g., x64 for 64-bit
systems).
• Double-click on the downloaded file to install
the update manually.
16
Hardware drivers
• Check your manufacture and see if there are any
new hardware drivers that need to be installed.
17
Hardware Drivers
1. Identify Your Hardware:
• Before you start updating drivers, it's helpful to know what
hardware components you have in your PC or laptop. Common
components include graphics cards, network adapters, sound
cards, and chipsets.
2. Use Device Manager:
• Open Device Manager by pressing the Windows key + X and
selecting "Device Manager" from the menu.
• In Device Manager, you'll see a list of all the hardware
components installed on your system.
• Expand each category to view individual devices. Look for any
devices with a yellow exclamation mark, as this indicates a driver
issue.
18
Website
1. Visit Manufacturer Websites:
• Identify the manufacturer of the hardware component for which you need to update
the driver.
• Visit the manufacturer's website. Most manufacturers have a support or drivers
section where you can search for and download the latest drivers for your specific
hardware model.
• Navigate to the appropriate section (e.g., "Support," "Downloads," or "Drivers") and
search for your hardware model. Download the latest driver available for your
operating system.
2. Use Windows Update:
• Windows Update often provides driver updates for various hardware components.
While these updates might not always be the latest, they are usually stable and
compatible with your system.
• Open Settings by pressing the Windows key + I, then go to Update & Security >
Windows Update.
• Click on "Check for updates." Windows will automatically search for available
updates, including driver updates.
• If any driver updates are available, Windows Update will download and install them
automatically.
19
1. Use Third-Party Driver Update Software:
• There are several third-party tools available that can
scan your system, identify outdated drivers, and
automatically download and install the latest versions.
Examples include Driver Booster, Driver Easy, and
Snappy Driver Installer.
• Download and install the driver update software of
your choice.
• Run a scan to detect outdated drivers, then follow the
prompts to update them.
