Realistic Feather

1. Create a 800x600 file, fill background with black then create a new layer, draw
the outline of feather with pentool, convert it into selection (press ctrl+enter)

2. fill selection with white

3.create another layer,

pentoo l again, draw the outline of peduncle , fill in with 50% grey

4.draw 3 shapes like this on

the feather with pentool

5.
convert pathwork from step 4 into selections, on the feather's layer, tab Back Space
(or Delete) 6. now create a
new FILE with transparent background, use 1 pixel pencil drop a few dots on it, save
it as brush (if you dont know how, refer to how to make brushes tutorials) back to
the feather file, use smudge tool, mode: normal, strength: 70 - 80 , use the brush
that we just made, diameter 5 - 7, spacing: 25 7. start smudge around, be patient,
smudge both from inside to outside and from outside to inside, that'll create the
inperfectness of the feather , which makes it look more realistic

8. draw a little white circle

(casual one, dont have to be perfect) around the bottom of the feather

9. use smudge tool with the

brush we made, strength: 70, smudge around and make it look like this

10. change the brush of

smudge tool to 1pixel brush (the very first one in the list), set strength to 90,
smudge it 11. same idea,
improve the main body of the feather abit

12. work with the peduncle,

just use burn tool and dodge tool to make it look 3D. I assume you know how here.

13. CTRL+U, adjust the color

to make it look right. (the peduncle should be a little bit yellow)

14. CTRL+E , merge both

layers, then smudge a little feathers over the peduncle (just to make it look real, be
patient ^^) 15. add a
gradient background, looking nice?
