Security information
Siemens provides products and solutions with industrial security functions that support the secure
operation of plants, systems, machines and networks.
In order to protect plants, systems, machines and networks against cyber threats, it is necessary
to implement – and continuously maintain – a holistic, state-of-the-art industrial security concept.
Siemens’ products and solutions constitute one element of such a concept.
Customers are responsible for preventing unauthorized access to their plants, systems, machines
and networks. Such systems, machines and components should only be connected to an
enterprise network or the internet if and to the extent such a connection is necessary and only
when appropriate security measures (e.g. firewalls and/or network segmentation) are in place.
For additional information on industrial security measures that may be implemented, please visit
https://www.siemens.com/industrialsecurity.
Siemens’ products and solutions undergo continuous development to make them more secure.
Siemens strongly recommends that product updates are applied as soon as they are available
and that the latest product versions are used. Use of product versions that are no longer
supported, and failure to apply the latest updates may increase customer’s exposure to cyber
threats.

1 Introduction
1.1 Overview
In this application example it is shown how to work with the Openness add-in
SINAMICS G120X Basic Setup in TIA Portal to parametrize two SINAMICS G120X
demo-cases from a PLC. Besides others, in this solution, the PLC has also a role
of a local storage center. I.e. the data necessary to make remote setup of the
G120X converters are stored here and can be used anytime in a future. For
example in a case of a converter replacement. The parametrization is done via
PROFINET using Acyclic communication.
Add-in SINAMICS G120X Basic Setup contains several faceplates that guide
the user throughout preparation of G120X basic setup offline, including setup of
frequently used application-related functions. It also allows to prepare the
complete basic setup for more identical drives in one step to save engineering
time. The output of this add-in are the Program blocks for a PLC in the project.
These blocks can be further modified to fit engineering needs. For example the
user can work with the add-in to prepare parametrization for many various
power rating drives having common most of the setting, like I/O's setup, ramps,
etc…. And later – once the Program blocks are created – modify only power
rating data inside the Data blocks. This saves the engineering effort in
preparation of setup data for many converters installed on site.
Our example is worked out on using two SINAMICS G120X demo-cases and the

2 HW preparation
2.1 Hardware setup
This application example shows the case of two G120X demo-cases on the PN
network with S7-1200.
After you have created a project in TIA Portal make following configuration:
• Add the PLC as a new device
• Add G120X PN V1.0 drives from HW catalog (installation of SINAMICS
GSD library required) and rename them to G120X_Demo1 and 2.
• Create the PN network and set IP addresses
• Finally move the added drives from Ungrouped devices folder to a project
root (drag-drop)

1. Saved configurations – in this area you have displayed all previously saved
or imported configurations that you can use for drive(s) commissioning either
unchanged or you can modify them in the next steps.
2. Import from file – if you migrate configuration file from another PG/PC you
can use „Import from file” button to import .xml file. Saved configurations are
stored under the path:
3. Select device(s) – in this area you can select (tick) the inverters you want the
new or selected configuration to apply to.
4. Next with selected configuration – moves you to the next window (Motor
Setup) with pre-filled setting according to selected Saved configuration. This
button is inhibited if no Saved configuration nor device is selected.
5. Next with new configuration – moves you to the next window (Motor Setup)
with zeroed setting. This button is inhibited if no device is selected.

only.
3. Enable All – switches On all available faceplates.
4. Disable All – switches Off all available faceplates.
5. List of available faceplates – use On-Off switch to enable/disable a particular
faceplate allowing further setup of the function.
2 4
1. Back and Next buttons – moves you one step back or forward without
discarding values (applies to all following windows).
2. Converter supply voltage – enter nominal value of power supply grid here
3. Start with Parameter reset – this box is preselected if you start with a new
configuration. If ticked the parametrization starts with drive parameters reset so
all previous drive setting is cleared and set to factory default.
4. Select Motor Control Mode – if you commission asynchronous motors as a
rule select SDC for drives up to 15kW and DDC above this power rating. For
commissioning other types of motors (synchronous, reluctance) select always
DDC.
5. Select Motor Standard – depending on motor nameplate units select either
IEC or NEMA (SI units) if the rated power is expressed in „kW” or NEMA (US
units) if it’s in „HP”.
6. Select Motor Type – select type of motor. If using SIMOTICS motor then
preferably select the correct design type, f.e. 1LE1 induction motor (not a code
number). If you know the SIMOTICS motor code then better select the option
with code required, f.e. 1LE1 induction motor (code required).
7. Motor data – enter motor nameplate data in all displayed and enabled fields.
Select also right connection type Y or . If you selected then you are allowed
to choose also 87Hz operation if suitable. Perform motor stationary ID test
option is by default ticked and it is strongly recommended to keep this setting
on.
1. Max. and Min. speed – enter limits in RPM units. For conversion from Hz units
use formula RPM = 60 * Hz / number of motor pole pairs.
Min. speed value should not be less than 15% of motor nominal speed.
2. Ramp up and Ramp down – enter the acceleration and deceleration time.
Default value is 10s.
1. Select Macro from the drop-down menu according to the required drive I/O
pre-configuration. The I/O function assignment is then displayed in the table
below the selection box.
© Siemens AG 2022 All rights reserved
1. Select Automatic Restart (AR) Mode – select suitable AR mode from the
drop-down menu.
2. AR monitoring time for restart – enter the monitoring time. The monitoring
time starts when the faults are detected. If the automatic acknowledgments are
not successful, the monitoring time runs again. If, after the monitoring time has
expired, the drive has still not successfully started again (flying restart and
magnetizing of the motor must have been completed: r0056.4 = 1), then fault
F07320 is output. The monitoring is deactivated with p1213 = 0.
3. AR wait time start attempts – set the delay time before the restart attempt.
4. AR start attempts - set the start attempts of the automatic restart function.
Available for AR Mode = 4, 6, 14, 16, 26.
5. Reset AR monitoring time for start-up counter – enter the delay after the
start-up counter is reset to initial value once the AR succeeded.
6. AR faults not active – enter up to 10 fault codes you want not to be
automatically acknowledged by the AR function.
7. Activate continues operation – select to activate Keep running mode.
3.2.7 Boost
2
© Siemens AG 2022 All rights reserved
1. Boost for SDC or V/F mode – enter the voltage boost at the zero output
frequency. Permanent boost value is active always at low output frequencies,
accelerating value is added only during ramping up and starting value only
after ON command (start from standstill).
2. Boost for DDC mode – enter the static torque setpoint in % of nominal motor
torque that is constant during the open-loop motor start (up to speed defined
by p1755) and acceleration torque that is added during acceleration/start.
1. Flying restart operation mode – activates the flying restart function with the
possibility to select either searching of motor frequency in both directions (but
starting always in the setpoint direction) or only in one direction identical with
the setpoint.
2. Flying restart enable signal source – sets the signal source to enable the
"flying restart" function. Note that by entering value 0 or 1 the function can be
disabled or enabled.
3. Flying restart detection current – sets the search current for the "flying
restart" function. The value is referred to the motor magnetizing current. The
optimized value is preset in the converter during quick commissioning and it is
recommended not to change it. If the change is needed after all, then unlock
the field by the adjacent tick box.
4. Flying restart search rate factor – sets the factor for the search speed for
flying restart. The value influences the rate at which the output frequency is
changed during a flying restart. A higher value results in a longer searching
time. The default value is preset in the converter during quick commissioning
and it is recommended not to change it. If the change is needed after all, then
unlock the field by the adjacent tick box.
Recommendation: For sensorless vector control and motor cables longer than
200 m, set the factor p1203 >= 300 %.
2 3
1. Skip speed bandwidth – sets the bandwidth for the skip speeds 1 to 4 in rpm
units. The setpoint (reference) speeds are skipped (suppressed) in the range
of the skip speed +/-p1101 so as the steady-state operation is not possible in
this range.
2. Skip speed 1 to 4 – sets skip speeds 1 to 4 in rpm units. The skip
(suppression) speeds can be used to prevent the effects of mechanical
resonances.
3. Skip speed scaling – sets the signal source for scaling the skip speeds. Note
that by entering value 0 or 1 you can either disable or enable all skip speeds
defined by parameters p1091 to p1094.

setup.
3. Setup summary – displays the summary of the setup for each above selected
function.
4. Save configuration – this button allows you to save the configuration locally
on your PG/PC in .xml format. Enter the name and optionally the description.
5. Finish – click on this button to generate program and data blocks for PLC that
are needed for drive(s) commissioning. If you already used the add-in in the
past you are asked to delete temporary data from previous use. Press Yes to
proceed.
Once the blocks are generated you will see the pop-up window:
Press Yes to exit the application or No to stay in it (for future exit you can use
the icon at right top corner).

4 Application example
The following example shows the offline preparation of identical setup data for two
G120X PN democases on a same PN network. It is also described how to execute
the setup of the drives afterwards from the PLC.
Let's assume it is required to have these democases:
• Commissioned for operation, i.e. to use Basic commissioning setup faceplates
• Pre-set with improved motor starting performance, i.e. to use Boost setup
faceplate
