Transportation Network Scenario Builder Guide
Create a new template name and add a short description. Select the Use Personal Prefixes
checkbox to add a custom prefix to identify the template if needed, then click on Create.
Once the new template is created, it will show some additional option to identify it, such as Tags
or a Long Description box.
As shown in the image, scenario builder can create information related to master data, order
management and materials management.
When the file is downloaded it will appear with the exact same name as the created scenario, its
important to keep this same name always.
The file contains 25 templates including the relevant ones for the transportation network
creation such as locations, transportation lanes, transportation zones, transshipment locations,
resources, etc.
Transportation Zones
For the transportation zones there will be available three tabs that give different options to set
up zones. The ZONE_HEADER should be filled it because this will create the name of the zone,
either is a country, state, or group-of-zones zone. This will set up the actual zone that can
include different zone, postal codes, locations, or regions.
In the ZONE_LOCATION tab you can find the option to add specific locations to the header
zones and the option to exclude them if desired. It’s important that these locations exist in the
system before the upload or create them via the locations template.
Under the ZONE_REGION tab you can add different regions to the same header zone including
their country code.
Finally, the last tab can add to a zone the different postal codes to take into account.
To create the transportation zones is enough to fill in just one of these tabs. Is not mandatory to
add information in each one.
Transportation Lanes
The transportation lanes template only include two tabs, one for the addition of means of
transport and the second one for carriers set up.
This template contains more column fields, not all of them are mandatory for the creation of the
lane. Under the MTR tab the mandatory fields are the following:
Source Location
Destination Location
Means of Transport
Validity Date
In addition to these fields, it may be important to add transit times per lane and costs of
transportation if the optimizer is going to be used. There are also available the business share
and allocation fields.
Under the CARRIER tab the mandatory fields are the following:
Source Location
Destination Location
Means of Transport
Carrier ID
Validity Date
There are also available the transportation costs, priority, and tendering fields.
For both validity dates its important to add them in the following format: yyyymmdd. And for the
transit time the format is the following: hhhhmmss.
Upload Scenario
When the templates are complete, they must be saved in the original zip file for the upload.
Back in Scenario Builder click on Upload to load the zip file.
Look for the zip file and select it. Check the Replace Existing Scenario Template box, this will
prevent the scenario to be duplicated and match with the created scenario. Hit Upload.
After uploading the system will show any error or warning message related to the scenario,
warning messages are not restrictive. These messages are shown automatically after the
upload or can be shown after clicking the Check button.
To review the scenario data, select the Master Data tab, this will show all master data the
scenario is attempting to create. Select each option to get a preview of the data it contains.
If the scenario contains specific locations with their coordinates, they will be shown in the map.
To finalize the process, click on the Create Scenario button. If everything is correct a message
will be prompted saying the scenario was created successfully. To confirm the scenario worked
its important to check the information directly in SAP TM.
