Tutorial 12: Energy Analysis – Part 2
1. Start Revit 2022
2. Open the file Tutorial_12.rvt
3. We need to isolate room bounding elements in the architectural model (if you
have slanted or elliptical walls, these two types will generate inaccurate energy
analysis results). Do the following steps:
a. Create a new 3D view of the model. It will be created in the Mechanical /
HVAC
b. Select one of the levels, right-click, and select Hide / Category
c. Start Visibility / Graphics command, from Filter List, turn all off except

Edges, Roof Soffits), Shaft openings, Site (pads), Structural columns, Walls
(Hidden lines, Common edges), and Windows
e. Click OK to end the command
4. Click the three small floor outside the building along with the roof at the main
entrance, and make sure it is not Room-Bounding (since this is outside the
building, so no need to be analyzed). if there is anything similar that you want to
make sure it is not Room-Bounding, select it and hide it
5. Orbit the model, looking for any missing elements (no floor, or no ceiling), or big
gaps. If you find any, fix the problem before you go any further
6. Go to Analyze tab, locate Energy Optimization panel, and click Create Energy
Model, a message will come up click Create the Energy Analytical Model button.

and Surfaces
10. Go to Analytical Spaces 3D view
11. Start Visibility / Graphics command, click Analytical Model Categories tab, and
turn off the Analytical Spaces, and turn on the Analytical Surfaces. Turn off
everything under Analytical Surfaces except Shades. Shade Surfaces take place

13
when any Revit Architecture element (or part of it) lies outside the building heat
transfer like parapets and the outside walls and roof of the stairs and elevator.
12. Look for shade surfaces which exists out of place position. If you find one,
communicate with the architect to search for gaps and any missing elements. You
can find, then fix anything in the model, then you can Delete Energy Model, and
regenerate a new one
13. We need to check the Analytical Model, if there are any missing elements or
gaps, in order to do that we can increase Analytical Space Resolution, and
Analytical Surface Resolution. To do that go to Analyze tab, locate Energy
Optimization panel, start Energy Settings command, keep Analytical Space
Resolution to 457.2mm, and change the Analytical Surface Resolution to 228.6
mm (always keep them to a ratio of 2:1)
14. Start Visibility / Graphics command, click Analytical Model Categories tab, and
turn on all the categories under Analytical Surfaces

change the Behavior to One per Space
13. You added Water Loops, Air System, and Zone Equipment, we need to connect
that to our Analytical Model. We will cut Level 1 to six zones, starting from
bottom up, calling it Area-01, Area-02, Area-03, etc.
14. Go to Analyze tab, locate Energy Optimization panel, click System Zone, set the
following:

15. Using 1 – Mech, create a line covering bottom four offices. Press [Esc], and click
