Student Status
Student Status is a dating website for college students. Read Victor’s profile on the
website.

My name’s Victor and I’m 25 years old. I’m from Brasilia and I’m single. I’m majoring in
business at Harvard University. It’s really interesting and I love Boston. My mom and dad
are English teachers for an online language school in Brazil – so my English is good. I want
to work in Europe when I finish college – maybe at a travel company because traveling is
my favorite thing to do.

People think that I’m a quiet person when I first meet them, but my best friends in Brasilia
say that I’m very talkative! I don’t like team sports very much, but I love running. I run with a
running group from my school. The people in the group are really friendly, and we see new
areas of Boston every week – Boston is a very beautiful city, but cold! I run most days,
sometimes with the group and sometimes alone, and I try to eat lots of healthy food.

I live in a house with three other students. We go out to a restaurant together every Friday
night. I enjoy trying new food and talking together. On the weekend, my three roommates
like loud bars and clubs, but I prefer museums and cafés.

I have short black hair and brown eyes, and I’m slim because of all the running I do.
Sometimes I have a beard, but I don’t at the moment. I’m looking for a partner who is kind
and funny. I’d like to meet someone who has the same interests as me.

Would you like to go on a date with me? If so, I’m waiting for your reply!

The perfect picture

Last fall I was helping my sister find a photographer for her wedding. I was looking at
wedding photographs online when I saw my first sakura picture. Sakura, or cherry blossoms,
are light pink flowers that bloom in the spring on cherry trees. The flowers are very beautiful
and very popular in wedding photos in Japan. In fact, the sakura flowers are very popular
with everyone in Japan.

After my sister’s wedding, I needed a relaxing vacation. I decided to visit Tokyo and see the
cherry blossoms. I booked a week in a hotel at the end of April. I bought a new camera and
looked online for the best places to see the trees. I arrived safely and checked into a clean,
comfortable hotel. I slept well and got ready for my first day of sakura photography.

Then the problems started. Even though it was morning when I arrived at Inokashira Park, it
was already very busy. Large families were having picnics. Couples were on dates. I
couldn’t get near the trees. My pictures were a disaster. At the end of the day, I went back to
my hotel feeling pretty sad. But when I was looking at my photos that evening, I found one
picture of a little boy looking at the flowers. He was laughing. It was a great picture.

The next day I returned to Inokashira Park, but this time I only took pictures of people. I
spoke to people who I thought looked interesting – people with colorful hats, or unusual hair,
or nice faces – and I asked to take their picture with the flowers. I had fun and I met lots of
friendly people. Now when I look at my sakura pictures, I remember the cherry blossoms,
but I also remember the stories.
