Laboratory Activity no. 4

GIGABYTE GA-Z170-HD3 motherboard

Objectives:

1. To obtain specific information on the Internet regarding a computer or

its associated parts.

Parts:

A computer with Internet access

Procedures:

Locate documentation on the Internet for a GIGABYTE GA-Z170-HD3

motherboard in order to answer Questions 1-12. Continue your internet search in

order to answer Questions 13 and 14.

Questions:

1. Does the motherboard support and Intel or AMD processor? Yes, it does support both intel’s 7th and
6th generation processors including with the 2-Way AMD Crossfire technology.

2. Which chipset is used? It uses Intel Z170 Express chipset.

3. How many expansion slots are on the motherboard? There are two expansion slots available for the
GIGABYTE GA-Z170-HD3.

4. Which form factor does this motherboard use? It is an ATX that roughly size in 199 x 305 mm.

5. Which processors can be used on this motherboard? This motherboard can have any intel CPUs as
long as it is a 7th generation or a 6th generation one. It also can use any 2-Way AMD CPUs.

6. Does the motherboard support having an integrated GPU in the CPU?

How can you tell whether it does or not? The motherboard doesn’t support any onboard graphics or
integrated GPUs.
7. Which type of CPU socket does the motherboard have? Since it is a 6th gen motherboard it uses a
LGA1151 socket.

8. How many and of what type of PCIe slots does it have? Based on the info that I got, it uses a PCIe
Gen 3 and has 4 slots of PCIe.

9. Is there any other type of expansion slot on this motherboard? If so,

what is it? It has a GPU slot.

10.Does this motherboard have an integrated USB 3.1 10 Gb/s port? Yes, in fact it has 4 of them.

11. What is the maximum number and type of USB ports available on the

rear of the motherboard? There are 6 USB ports available and it consists of 4 USB 3.1 and 2 USB 1.0.

12.Write the URL where you found the motherboard information.

13. Find a vendor for a motherboard that uses the A55 chipset that can

support PCIe 3.0. Document the motherboard model and vendor. Aorus GA-A55M-DS2 is a
motherboard by Aorus. The vendor of this motherboard is the Aorus official website. The specs of this
motherboard are as the following:

This Extended ATX Motherboard has the size of 9.8"L x 4"W x 14"H.

Observation:

I have observed in this week’s laboratory activity is that it is still about PC parts and this time it is still
about the motherboard, unlike last time its only about the back-panel ports of the motherboard this
time it is about the main motherboard specifications itself.

Conclusions:

I have concluded in this week’s laboratory activity that this activity is for sir to know if we can know the
basic specifications of a motherboard from form factors to PCIe slots. It is a short and fun laboratory
activity like the last time since it doesn’t contain that much questions and most questions are straight to
the point and most of the answers you will put are on your own words kind of answer.
