ABSTRACT

This phenomenological study explored the lived experiences and strategies of

school heads in implementing School Improvement Plans (SIPs) within the
Philippine educational context. The study aimed to gain insights into the challenges
faced by school heads, particularly in resource allocation, stakeholder engagement,
and achieving identified improvement areas. Furthermore, it investigated school
heads' perceptions of SIPs' roles in fostering conducive learning environments,
improving teaching practices, and promoting overall school development. Data were
collected through semi-structured interviews with three purposively selected school
heads from Maitum, Sarangani Province. An interpretative phenomenological
analysis approach was employed to uncover the essence of the participants'
experiences. Findings revealed significant challenges related to resource
constraints, securing stakeholder buy-in, and achieving targeted improvement
areas. School heads perceived SIPs as instrumental in aligning school resources,
promoting professional growth, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Collaborative approaches, data-driven decision-making, and stakeholder
involvement were identified as key strategies for effective SIP implementation. The
study highlights the need for comprehensive educational financing strategies,
inclusive stakeholder engagement, and the incorporation of school heads' insights
into policy decisions to ensure sustainable school improvement initiatives.
