Draw a simple outline of a house on the board. Elicit house. Elicit any rooms that pupils

Write on board: Adjectives.


Pupils brainstorm 6–10 adjectives and write on board to create a bubble map.

Pre lesson With books closed, write on the board the names of two citiees that pupils know.
Ask what they think the differences between the two cities are.
Elicit some examples of comparative adjectives and write them on the board. e.g. Brunei
is smaller than China.

Activity 1:
a. Pupils complete the table then write the comparative forms of the
adjectives in the box.
b. Check answers.
c. Pupils look at adjectives written on board from pre lesson activity.
d. Choose pupils to say comparative forms.
Activity 2:
a. Explain to pupils the activity is about pronunciation of -er at end of
adjectives.
b. Play CD1.18. Repeat track and pause for pupils to say words chorally
and some words individually. (Assessment)
c. Ask: What other word has a short sound? (than)

a. Activity 5 Use It!: Check meaning of ‘opinion’ with examples: Kuala
Lumpur is the capital of Malaysia. I think Kuala Lumpur is very
interesting.
b. Ask: Which sentence is true? Which sentence is what somebody
thinks?
c. Pupils read Key Phrases.
d. Choose two pupils to model the dialogue in speech bubbles.
e. CCE: Values – This activity raises pupil’s awareness of the
difference between opinions and facts.
f. In pairs, pupils choose 3 or 4 things from the box and practise
comparing their opinions about them using adjectives and Key

Stick the flashcards of Art, Music, PE, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies,

2.Have pupils write down three subjects they like. Ask some pupils what their

3.Direct pupils' attention to the picture. Ask pupils to guess what the children are

j. Check answers with the class and check that pupils understand
really, very and quite.
k. Organise pupils into pairs.
l. Each pair writes a phrase with really/very/quite + adj. + noun.
m. Choose pupils to read phrases to class.
Activity 4:
a. Do the first sentence with pupils as an example.
b. Pupils order the words in sentences 2–5.
c. Pupils write jumbled words including an adjective for a partner to put

Pre lesson Pupils review adjectives (p.5) in word form.
1. Have pupils work in pairs or small groups. Give each pair/group a set of word cards.
The set includes the words from the main vocabulary, all cut up and mixed up (e.g.
take / the / bus / walk / take / the train / drive). Pupils should work together to try to
arrange them to make the vocabulary phrases or words. Consider including some of
the vocabulary from Student’s Book p.15 as well. (21st CA)
Lesson 2. To check the answers, say the expressions in question form (e.g. Does Ali always
development take the bus to school? and have pupils touch the words as they hear them.
3. Pupils open their books on page 17. Pupils listen to the audio for Activity 3 and say

Play a word game to focus on the word teacher. Tell pupils this is your job – you are a

them learn to use a dictionary. Show pupils a dictionary.
1. Elicit and write the alphabet on the board. Write the word cat on the board. Model
using a dictionary to find the word and read the definition.
2. Put the pictures of the people from Student’s Book p.18 on the board. Show pupils
the word cards and put them randomly on the board too.
3. Have pupils work in at least seven groups. Assign one word to each group and ask
them to find the word in the dictionary. Give them time to find the word and then ask
