SAFETY REMINDERS DURING THE EXPERIMENT

1. Always follow pressure ratings and limitations. Use only the allowed air
pressure for compressor (maximum of 6 bars) and air service unit (3.5 - 4 bars)!

2. Turn off the switch when changing connections!

3. Never point it to yourself or another person! Absolutely NO HORSEPLAY!

4. Never use it to clean clothing or hair!

5. Always check the condition of hoses and lines before use!

6. Always wear proper protective clothing!

7. Never use it to clean workspaces or equipment unless necessary!

8. Do not put your hand or fingers near the cylinder when it is moving.

9. Ensure that the hoses/tubing are locked before you put the compressed air.

10. Proper usage of the equipment must be observed to avoid damage and
accidents.

FluidSim Diagram

Procedure:
1. Put the ASU in the aluminum board. ASU switch must be off.
2. Connect the compressor and ASU by using the plastic tubing.
3. Prepare the compressor and set your output to 6 bars. Use the pressure gauge above
the tank. Make sure that the switch of the compressor and ASU are off.
4. Set the air pressure of the ASU at 3.5 bars and connect the output to the distributor
block. (Note: The diameter of the hose is larger than those used for the other pneumatic
devices.)
5. Construct the diagram on the aluminum board. Pull the plastic tubing to ensure that they
are tightly connected. Follow the block diagram below:

Compressor Air service unit Distributor block Pneumatic Diagram

What is the initial position of the piston? ______________________________________.

6. Set the opening of the one-way flow valve to 100%. Push the switch once and remove
your finger. Observe the movement of the piston.

What happened when you push the button?

____________________________________

7. Do procedure 5 with 50% and 0% settings of the one-way flow valve.

Compare the behavior of the piston. ________________________________________

8. Remove the 3/2 – way normally close push button valve and change it to 3/2 – way
normally open push button valve.

What is the initial position of the piston? ______________________________________.

9. Push the button and observe the reaction of the piston.
