ABSTRACT

This project is a web based shopping system for an existing shop. The project
objective is to deliver the online shopping application into android platform. This project is an
attempt to provide the advantages of online shopping to customers of a real shop. It helps
buying the products in the shop anywhere through internet by using an android device. Thus the
customer will get the service of online shopping and home delivery from his favorite shop.
This system can be implemented to any shop in the locality or to multinational
branded shops having retail outlet chains. If shops are providing an online portal where their
customers can enjoy easy shopping from anywhere, the shops won’t be losing any more
customers to the trending online shops such as flipcart or ebay. Since the application is available
in the Smartphone it is easily accessible and always available.

CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

This project is a web based shopping system for an existing shop. The
project objective is to deliver the online shopping application into android platform. Online
shopping is the process whereby consumers directly buy goods or services from a seller in real-
time, without an intermediary service, over the Internet. It is a form of electronic commerce.
This project is an attempt to provide the advantages of online shopping to customers of a real
shop. It helps buying the products in the shop anywhere through internet by using an android
device.
Thus the customer will get the service of online shopping and home delivery from his favorite
shop

1.1 PROJECT OBJECTIVE:

The objective of the project is to make an application in android platform to

purchase items in an existing shop. In order to build such an application complete web support
need to be provided. A complete and efficient web application which can provide the online

1.2 PROJECT OVER VIEW:

The central concept of the application is to allow the customer to shop

virtually using the Internet and allow customers to buy the items and articles of their desire from
the store. The information pertaining to the products are stores on an RDBMS at the server side
(store). The Server process the customers and the items are shipped to the address submitted by
them. The application was designed into two modules first is for the customers who wish to buy
the articles. Second is for the storekeepers who maintains and updates the information pertaining
to the articles and those of the customers. The end user of this product is a departmental store
where the application is hosted on the web and the administrator maintains the database. The
application which is deployed at the customer database, the details of the items are brought
forward from the database for the customer view based on the selection through the menu and
the database of all the products are updated at the end of each transaction. Data entry into the
application can be done through various screens designed for various levels of users. Once the
authorized personnel feed the relevant data into the system, several reports could be generated as
per the security.

1.3 Existing System and Need for System

EXISTING SYSTEM :-
The current system for shopping is to visit the shop manually and from
the available product choose the item customer want and buying the item by payment of the price
of the item .

 It is less user-friendly.
 User must go to shop and select products.
 It is difficult to identify the required product.
 Description of the product limited.
 It is a time consuming process.
 Not in reach of distant users.

Need of the application :-

There are large numbers of commercial Online Shopping websites
offering large number of products tailored to meet the shopping interests of large number of
customers. These online marketplaces have thousands of products listed under various
categories.

Problem:
• The basic problems with the existing systems are the non-interactive environment they provide
to the users.
• The use of traditional user interfaces which make continuous post backs to the server; each
post back makes a call to the server, gets the response and then refreshes the entire web form to
display the result. This scenario adds an extra trade off causing a delay in displaying the results
• A search engine that would display the results without allowing the users to further filter the
results based on various parameters.
• Use of traditional and non user friendly interfaces that are hard to use

Solution:

• The motive of this Online Shopping Web Application is to allow the user to play with the
search tool and create different combinatorial search criterion to perform exhaustive search.
• Making the application AJAX enabled gets rid of these unnecessary delays letting the user to
perform exhaustive search. The users of this application can easily feel the difference between
the Ajax empowered user interfaces vs. traditional user interfaces.
• Provide Interactive interface through which a user can interact with different areas of
application easily. • A search engine that provides an easy and convenient way to search for
products specific to their needs. The search engine would list a set of products based on the
search term and the user can further filter the list based on various parameters.

1.4 Scope of Work

• The current system can be extended to allow the users to create accounts and save products in
to wish list.
• The users could subscribe for price alerts which would enable them to receive messages when
price for products fall below a particular level.
• The current system is confined only to the shopping cart process. It can be extended to have a
easy to use check out process.
• Users can have multiple shipping and billing information saved. During checkout they can use
the drag and drop feature to select shipping and billing information.

CHAPTER 2
PROPOSED SYSTEM

In the proposed system customer need not go to the shop for buying the products. He
can order the product he wish to buy through the application in his Smartphone. The shop owner
will be admin of the system. Shop owner can appoint moderators who will help owner in
managing the customers and product orders.

2.1 Objectives of System:-

• To develop an easy to use web based interface where users can search for products, view a
complete description of the products and order the products.

• A search engine that provides an easy and convenient way to search for products specific to
their needs. The search engine would list a set of products based on the search term and the
user can further filter the list based on various parameters.

• An AJAX enabled website with the latest AJAX controls giving attractive and interactive look
to the web pages and prevents the annoying post backs.

• Drag and Drop feature which would allow the users to add a product to or remove a
product from the shopping cart by dragging the product in to the shopping cart or out of the
shopping cart.

• A user can view the complete specification of the product along with various images and
also view the customer reviews of the product. They can also write their own reviews.

2.2 User Requirements:-

 Speed — Shoppers expect lightning-speed load times, and Google does too.
 Ease of use in the checkout flow — Focus on ease of use; ensure you don’t introduce any
unnecessary steps to complete the purchase. Strive for a one-click experience.
 Personalization — A third-party personalization tool integrated into your ecommerce
platform can influence your sales by up to 59% percent.
 Accessibility — Follow the universal guidelines provided and implement your
accessibility standard to include all shoppers.

CHAPTER 4 . DRAWBACKS OR LIMITATIONS

1. Security
One of the main limitations of eCommerce is security. In most cases, people are hesitant to
provide their personal and financial details in spite of advanced data encryption security
systems in place. Moreover, there are some websites that do not have the capability and
features installed to authenticate transactions. As such, there are instances of fraudulent
activities. The fear of providing financial information like credit card details hinders the growth
of eCommerce.

2. Lack of Privacy
To some extent, the privacy of a customer is compromised in eCommerce. You need to
provide your personal details, such as an address, telephone number, and so on to the seller.
There are still lots of sites that do not have the advanced technology to protect sensitive
information.
Moreover, there are also sites that illegally collect consumer statistics without permission.
This is one reason why people get skeptical while using eCommerce.

3. Tax Issue
In the case of different geographical locations, sales tax becomes an issue. Many a time sellers
have faced problems in the computation of sales tax. Moreover, physical stores have a risk of
losing business if online transactions are exempted from taxation.

4. Fear
In spite of the popularity, there still resides an element of doubt in the mind of people when it
comes to online shopping. This is because the customer cannot physically examine the product
and is not sure about the features and attributes. This is why a lot of people prefer shopping
from physical stores.

5. Product Suitability
As already mentioned, it is not possible for people to physically examine the product in
eCommerce. In many cases, the original product may not match the picture or specifications in
the eCommerce site. This absence of ‘touch and feel’ creates a discouraging effect.

6. Cultural Obstacles
As the process of eCommerce encompasses customers across the globe, the habits, traditions,
and culture differ. There may also be linguistic problems and all these may lead to issues
between the seller and buyer.

CHAPTER 5 . PURPOSED ENHANCMENT

E-commerce solutions are constantly being updated to provide retailers with what they need to
appeal to their customers. Aside from cataloging functions that allow retailers to display
products online and search functions that allow customers to find what they’re looking for,
many solutions on the market provide additional support for e-commerce sites including
customer reviews, secure payments, social and mobile integration and gift cards.
This month’s Vendor Landscape focuses on e-commerce solutions. RIS lists some of the major
vendors and highlights some recent retailer deployments.

Growing WEB Traffic

High-end houseware retailer Nambe was able to grow site traffic and sales and broaden its
brand awareness by implementing the Software-as-a-Service e-commerce platform from CDC
Software. The solution provides “the broadest feature set at the best price compared to
everything else we looked at,” says Jeff Creecy, vice president of IT for Nambe. “But we also felt
the platform was flexible enough to allow us to do things we hadn’t even though of yet.”

Shopping Made Easy

Advanced Auto Parts is using the CrossView Cross-Channel Commerce Platform to enhance its
website with powerful search features and high-speed movement from page to page. The site
features a streamlined shopping cart and multiple shipping options that enable buyers to
purchase online and pick up in local stores or receive at-home delivery. Integrated and hosted
by CrossView, the website leverages several best-in-class features, including customer reviews
using technology from PowerReviews, transaction processing services from PayPal and
CyberSource payment management.

Updated Security
Dydacomp recently released Version 8 of its Multichannel Order Manager solution. The latest
version integrates powerful fraud protection features to ensure order authenticity, and has the
capacity to attach to any e-commerce shopping cart or third party system using Dydacomp’s
open API.
