An in-depth look at gender inequality in the Philippines, Unmasking Inequity

PART I.

This paper talks about the problems of gender inequality in our society. We know

that this is a common issue that occurred way before and is still progressing in the

present. To effectively advocate for gender equality, one must take into account these

various forms of bias from an intersectional perspective. Additionally, it is crucial to

consider the numerous forms of discrimination that women and individuals with

marginalized gender identities face while promoting human rights in respect to gender-

related issues. It is crucial to realize that discrimination against people based on their

gender frequently exists alongside discrimination against people based on their color,

ethnicity, socioeconomic standing, or sexual orientation. Successful campaigns on

gender issues depend on cooperation and partnership among various parties, including

activists, civil society organizations, governments, and international organizations.

PART II.

Gender Equality in the Labor Market in the Philippines

- This article talks all about the requirements in attaining inclusive growth for

women in the expansion of employment opportunities to promote gender equality

in the labor industry. The difficulties and problems with gender equality in the

Philippine job market are the main topics of this article. It emphasizes that
despite the nation's economic growth, women's employment has not increased

enough, and the work options that have been available have not been inclusive.

The article discusses a number of significant gender disparities in the labor

market, including those that continue to disproportionately affect women,

including labor force participation, human capital, the burden of unpaid domestic

and care work, vulnerable employment, wage employment, decent work, and

social protection.

Inequality, Stigma Push Filipinas to Keep Soaring

- This article focuses on the difficulties and discrimination that women experience

across a range of professions as a result of gender stereotypes. It focuses on the

experiences of three women who encountered prejudice and discrimination in

their professional and personal life but overcome these obstacles with tenacity,

self-assurance, and a dedication to personal development. The World Economic

Forum's Global Gender Report 2021, which rates the Philippines as the top-

performing nation in Asia for bridging the gender gap, is also cited in the article.

In general, the text stresses the value of empowering women, eliminating gender

discrimination, and promoting self-assurance and personal development.

Gender Inequality Affects Everyone

- This article focuses on the problem of gender inequality and how it affects all

facets of society. It draws attention to the differences between men and women

in terms of salary, unpaid caregiving, violence against women, and

representation in positions of authority and public places. It also covers the

difficulties faced by those who identify as gender varied and who encounter

prejudice and rejection as a result of deviating from conventional gender norms.

5 Top Issues Fueling Gender Inequality in the Workplace

- This article acknowledges that women play important roles in many facets of life

and society. It draws attention to the major difficulties that women still encounter

in the workplace despite their wide range of duties. The sentence implies that

there is a lack of gender equality and fairness because women are frequently

considered as "less than" in the workplace. The following parts are likely to cover

the five main issues that women in the workforce must deal with. Issues with the

gender pay gap, professional progression, work-life balance, gender

discrimination, and the need for more equal workplace rules may be among

these difficulties.

Gender Inequality and Economic Growth: Evidence from Industry-Level Data

- The study's goal is to discover how gender equality and economic development

are related. It specifically aims to ascertain whether greater gender equality

promotes economic growth by allowing for a more effective distribution of female

labor, a priceless resource. According to the theory, lowering gender disparity

should result in a more effective use of female labor, which should benefit

companies with a higher number of female employees than other industries.

PART III.

Significance of this paper

It addresses the longstanding issue of gender inequality in society. Gender

inequality has been a pervasive problem for a long time and continues to persist in

contemporary society. By shedding light on this issue, the paper draws attention to the

ongoing need for addressing and rectifying these disparities. Other than that, it also

emphasizes the importance of considering gender bias from an intersectional

perspective. This means recognizing that individuals may face multiple forms of

discrimination or bias based on factors such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or

sexual orientation in addition to their gender. Understanding these intersecting forms of

discrimination is essential for developing effective strategies for promoting gender

equality.

In addition to that, the paper underscores the significance of addressing gender-

related issues within the broader context of human rights. Gender discrimination is a

violation of human rights, and it is crucial to advocate for gender equality as an integral

part of the larger human rights framework. Lastly, it emphasizes the need for

collaboration and partnership among various stakeholders. Successful campaigns and

initiatives aimed at addressing gender issues require the involvement of a diverse range

of parties, including activists, civil society organizations, governments, and international

organizations. This collaborative approach is essential for making meaningful progress

toward gender equality.

In summary, the paper is important because it recognizes the persistence of

gender inequality, advocates for an intersectional perspective, places gender-related

issues within the context of human rights, and highlights the need for collective efforts to

address and combat gender bias and discrimination.

WHAT

Gender inequality is a common problem that people of the heterosexual and

homosexual sex experience on a daily basis. Instances that include discrimination and

sexism occur in this kind of problem. This could greatly affect the mental health of many

people and might even result in suicide. This persistent problem is present in every

place because of those people who persecute others for their differences or any

unusual concept that the society is not normally seeing. This should be stopped

because we should learn to coexist with each other in a peaceful manner.

WHO

● Men & Women - men and women should learn to respect the other sex. They

should not be fighting for their own rights but for the rights of everyone.

● Lgbtqi+ society - the lgbtqi+ society should learn to be cooperative and learn to

compromise from different situations, because not everyone is like that. There

are times that they feel attacked and tend to be violent in some cases.

● Myself - I have a responsibility for society, I should learn to always be cautious of

what i say in public because it might be offensive to others. I am also responsible

for the people around me to correct them whenever they do inappropriate things

that might cause a problem between other people.

WHERE

Every place in the world is the right place to act. Not only in school, workplace, or

parks because this problem does not only occur in one specific place, there is a

tendency that it might occur in a very sudden manner.

WHEN

There is also no specific time when it comes to solving this problem because we

should be alert and mindful to always act when an issue related to this problem occurs.

WHY

This problem is significant and is needed to be solved because of the following:

- Decrease gender inequality

- Peaceful coexistence with each other

- Eliminate homosexual discrimination

- Stop the unjust treatment from different sexes or genders

HOW

We could help in this fight by doing basic activities like the following:

1. Gender equality seminars or lectures.

- We can use this to help wake others up from ignorance. Seminars serve

as a good way to learn and help others understand or know that we are all

the same, even if we have different sexes.

2. Support and promotion of the LGBTQI+ community.

- Supporting the LGBTQI+ community is also a great activity and we can do

this by accepting them in the society for who they are. We can teach one

another the do’s and don’ts so that we can live orderly in this world.
PART IV.

In my opinion here are the strengths of my activity: This essay is well-written, and

it makes its points in an understandable and direct way. It effectively conveys the

significance of combating discrimination and gender inequality. It demonstrates a

thorough understanding of the problems with discrimination and gender inequality. It

touches on a number of the issues, including discrimination against the LGBTQI+

community and gender bias. In addition to highlighting the problems, it offers concrete

recommendations for how people and society as a whole can help solve the issue. It

suggests conferences, talks, and aiding the LGBTQI+ community as effective ways to

change things. It also acknowledges that people of various genders and sexual

orientations are affected by the issue. It emphasizes how important it is for different

societal groups to work together and understand one another. The essay underscores

the connection between gender inequality and human rights, emphasizing the violation

of human rights that occurs due to discrimination. In summary, the essay effectively

addresses the problem of gender inequality and discrimination, provides actionable

steps for addressing it, and demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the issue.

It emphasizes inclusivity, a global perspective, and the importance of human rights in

the context of gender equality.

Despite the strengths of my essay it also has its downsides such as redundancy,

limited discussion of intersectionality, less concrete examples, limited discussion of

responsibility, clarity, and structure. My writing frequently uses the same words and

concepts, which can make it appear cliche. The sentences "This problem is significant
and needs to be solved because of the following" and "We can teach one another the

do's and don'ts so that we can live orderly in this world" are two examples of phrases

that could be expressed more succinctly. Although there are general discussions of the

issue of gender inequality and discrimination, there are no case studies or specific

examples to highlight the problems. Giving specific examples or real-life examples could

increase the essay's relatability and impact. Intersectionality is briefly mentioned in the

essay, but it is not thoroughly discussed. A richer understanding of discrimination could

be gained by looking more closely at how different types of discrimination interact and

amplify each other's effects. Although the essay makes reference to personal

accountability, it does not discuss the larger accountability of institutions, governments,

and society as a whole in addressing gender inequality and discrimination. To help the

reader follow the arguments, the essay's structure could be better organized with clear

sections or headings. In conclusion, the essay would be strengthened by more diverse

and focused examples, a deeper examination of intersectionality, the use of data and

evidence, a more thorough examination of responsibility, and improved clarity and

organization. These changes would increase the essay's thoroughness and

persuasiveness.

PART V.

There are a lot of probable topics that are related to gender issues in the

Philippines but here are my top 3 choices that need to be studied.

1. Learn more about the gender pay gap in the Philippines by looking into its size

and root causes. Analyze the contributions that factors like occupation,
education, and industry make to this gap. Analyze how pay inequalities affect

women's households and the economy. Investigate additional legislative options

to close the gender pay gap and advance pay equity.

2. Conduct an extensive investigation into gender-based violence and harassment

in the Philippines. Look into the frequency, types, and effects of gender-based

violence, such as domestic abuse, sexual harassment, and workplace

harassment. Determine areas for improvement by evaluating how well the

current legal and support systems are working to address these problems.

3. Representation of Women in Leadership and Decision-Making Roles: Look into

how few women are in leadership and decision-making roles in a variety of fields,

such as business, politics, and civil society. Examine the obstacles and

difficulties that prevent women from assuming leadership positions, and

determine how their underrepresentation affects governance and policy making.

Create suggestions for boosting women's involvement and leadership in these

fields.
