Course Description:
In this course, we will review all grammar from previous groups to show mastery of previous
learning outcomes. We will introduce and reinforce new complex grammar rules in context. The
focus of this course is USING grammar. You will develop skills to learn and use grammar on your
own through a variety of discourse types and contexts.
Learning Outcomes:
Talk and write about present, past and future events using the appropriate verb tense and
cohesive devices in variety of simple, compound and complex sentences.
Use simple past, past perfect, and past perfect continuous.
Use simple present with future perfect and future perfect continuous
Use phrasal verbs in an original sentence or story in writing and speaking.
Reduce adjective clauses in writing.
Use perfect modals in writing and speaking.
Use third conditional in writing and speaking.
Utilize the subjunctive mood in writing and speaking.
Identify and correct grammar errors.
Participation:
Attendance:
1-5 minutes late = Tardy 5+ minutes late = 1 Absence
If you come in more than 5 minutes late, you will be considered absent. You may come in and do the
work, but you will still be marked absent. If you are late and marked “absent” PLEASE talk to me at
the end of class! Friday classes are counted as two classes. This means if you are present for both
hours of class, you will be counted present for Friday and Saturday.

Performance:
Written Quizzes: You will have at least 3 written quizzes. These will have open-ended
prompts that you will write a paragraph for. These will be used to assess your spoken
grammar based on the learning outcomes.
Speaking Quizzes: You will have at least 3 speaking quizzes throughout the session which
will assess your spoken grammar based on the learning outcomes. These may come in the
form of group discussions, interviews, self-recordings, speeches, presentations, debates, etc.
**You are REQUIRED to have a level-appropriate novel that you have chosen to read this session.
You must bring this book to class every day. This book can be the same book you have chosen to
read for pleasure in your Reading Class (in fact, it is encouraged!)**
Grading Policy:
You need 70% (C-) overall Performance grade to move from level 7 to level 8.
You need 80% (B-) overall Performance grade to pass level 8.
Grading scale:
A = 93 – 100 B = 83 – 86 C = 73 – 76 D = 63 – 66
A- = 90 – 92 B- = 80 – 82 C- = 70 – 72 D- = 60 – 62
B+ = 87 – 89 C+ = 77 – 79 D+ = 67 – 69 F = 59 or below
