Test Day Instructions For OSMC Nov 25 26 2023
Dear Parent,
This document shares some essential details of the Online Simulated Maths Challenge (OSMC).
Test Structure
The Test format for Grades 1-6 is mentioned below:
1 12 2 1-12 24
2 17 3 13-29 51
3 5 5 30-34 25 60 mins
Total 34 100
The OSMC will be conducted across two days: Saturday 25th Nov, 12:00 am EST to Sunday 26th Nov,
11:59 pm EST. The student can take the Challenge anytime during this period. Once the test
commences, it cannot be paused, and the test needs to be taken in one sitting.
Test Commencement
To commence the test, you need to follow the following steps.
Step 3) The next screen will have some basic information about the exam, already included in this
document. Once you verify that the information is correct, click the button: 'I am ready to begin.'
Step 4) You will be asked permission to access the computer web camera. You need to allow
access as this is a proctored exam.
The test will not commence if the above permission is not given. The test will also not commence if
the requisite software or hardware, such as the web camera, is not functional.
Test Security
As you are aware, this is a video-proctored test. This means that the student's activities will be
monitored during the test. You need to note the following points
1. The use of stationery such as pen, pencils, erasers, rulers and paper is permitted.
2. While eatables cannot be consumed, the student can drink water during the test.
3. The use of a calculator is strictly not permitted.
4. For grades 1 to 6, we recommended the parent/guardian sit next to the student to help
them commence the test. Once the parent clicks on ‘Allow permission to use camera’,
they have to move away and let the student start the test.
5. If the student changes tabs during the test, the test will be terminated.
6. If we detect that the student is speaking to someone or if anyone else comes within the camera frame,
the test may terminate.
7. If the student reads from a different device hidden from the camera, his eye movements will be
flagged, and the test may terminate. Note that we don't expect to capture facial and eye
movements throughout the duration of the test. We understand that most students
crouch over while solving questions.
8. If a student tampers with the video, it will be flagged, and the test will terminate.
We know these rules might seem a little intimidating. But while we want the student to focus on
the test, we also need to ensure that the test is secure. As long as the student is left alone and
doesn't engage in misconduct, it will all work fine.
Computer specifications
The test needs to be taken on a Laptop or Desktop computer in working condition with a good
quality Camera. A minimum RAM of 4GB is required, and anything below that may affect the
performance of the test platform. While the test works on most browsers, it works best with the
latest version of Google Chrome Browser. Also, please note that Internet speed should be more than
1 Mbps. We recommend you close all other tabs on the screen before commencing the test.
Screen visibility
You can see below how the screen will look during the test. To enhance your viewing experience of the
image below, you can utilize the following keyboard shortcuts:
For Windows: Press Ctrl + "+" to zoom in on this page.
For Mac OS: Press Command + "+" to zoom in on this page.
5. The bottom left part of the screen will show your live feed.
6. The test ends when you click on 'Submit Test'. This button of' Submit Test' will be visible
when you reach the last question. Note that you are free to jump to that question when you
wish to.
7. If you do not click on 'Submit Test', the test will terminate once the time runs out. There
wouldbe no warning indicators given. There is a timer on the top right of the screen. If the
time runs out, the test will be submitted independently.
Enlarging Questions
Within the test platform, you will have the option to enlarge questions for better clarity
and visibility. To do so, simply click on the question itself, indicated by a green tick. Refer
to the example below for a demonstration. Avoid clicking on other areas, such as the 'lens'
icon marked with a red cross, as it may cause a tab change that could be interpreted as a
security concern.
The image below displays an example of an enlarged question. To close the enlarged view,
simply click on the 'Close' icon located at the top right corner of the screen.
This is a test of both speed and accuracy. In the past, students who have demonstrated the ability to
promptly skip challenging questions and return to them after completing the easier ones have generally
achieved higher performance in these tests.
Results
The test results will be uploaded directly on the student portal on or before 9 am (EST) December
3rd 2023. The type of scorecard you will receive, whether the BSR or ESR, will depend on the
specific course you have enrolled in. A student scoring between 80-95%ile earns the title of an
International Maths Challenge Elitist. Those scoring 95%ile and more are awarded the title of
International Maths Challenge Champion. These winners will be notified separately about the
accolades they are entitled to receive.
