The components of a network include:


- Clients: Any computer that is the part of a common network other than the

- A server: The administrator that controls the functioning of other computers.
- Media: The physical device through which various components of a computer
network are connected with each other. They can be wired, using materials such
as copper and fibre optic or use wireless technologies.
- Network Interface Card (NIC) or Network Adaptor: A circuit board that regulates
exchange of data between the network and computers.
- Networking devices: hubs, switches, and routers.
- Resources: Any device that is available to a computer (printers, fax machines and
other network devices).

Some of the advantages of using a computer network are the following:


- You can share devices such as printers and save money.
- You can share files with all the other computers on the network.
- Buying a site license for a network is cheaper than buying several standalone
licenses.
- Data is easy to backup as all the data is stored on the file server.
