a. Reviewing previous In our activity, when you predict the arrangement of the hidden vegetables there
lesson/s or presenting the are two dilemmas: a high chance to get wrong arrangement and low chance to
new lesson get it right. Based on our activity what do you think is our lesson for today?

b. Establishing a purpose
for the lesson Probability is the extent to which an event is likely to occur, measured by the
ratio of the favorable cases to the whole number of cases possible.

c. Presenting
examples/instances of the Probability is the extent to which an event is likely to occur, measured by the
new lesson ratio of the favorable cases to the whole number of cases possible.

Let us discuss first about the probability line.

The probability is zero, it is impossible to happen.

The probability is 0.25, it is unlikely to happen.

The probability is 0.5; it is equally likely to happen, 50% chance

the event will happen.

The probability is 0.75, it is likely to happen. 75% chance the event

will happen.

The probability is 1, it is certain to happen. 100% surely the event

will happen.

We also need to illustrate the Probability Rules. There are four (4) probability
rules to know while we are performing and solving probability.
1. The Probability of any event is a number (a fraction, a decimal, or a percent).
Example: The weather forecast shows 75% chance of raining.
2. If an event will never happen, then its probability is 0.
Example: When a single die is rolled, what is the probability of getting an 8.
We all know that a die it has only 6 faces therefore getting an 8 is impossible.
3. If an event is sure to happen, then its probability is 1.
Example: When a single die is rolled, what is the probability of getting a number
less than 7?
The event is certain to happen since all the faces of die has a number less than 7.
4. The sum of the probabilities of all the outcomes in the sample is 1.

d. Discussing new concept Let us now discuss the Probability of Simple events.
Simple events are the events where one experiment happens at a time, and it will
have a single outcome. The probability of simple events is denoted by P(E)
where E is the event. The probability will lie between 0 and 1.
The formula in getting the probability of simple events is:
number of favorable outcomes
P(E) =
number of all possible outcomes

Let us have the example.

Example 1: A bag has 3 red and 5 green balls. What is the probability of getting
a red ball?

number of favorable outcomes

P(E) =
number of all possible outcomes

3 red balls
P(Red) =
3 red+5 greenballs

3 red balls
P(Red) =
8 balls

3
P(Red) =
8

e. Continuation of the There are 20 marbles in container, 4 are red, 5 are blue and 11 are yellow. What
discussion of new concept is the probability that a blue marble will be picked.
5 blue marbles
P(Blue) =
number of all possible outcomes

5 bluemarbles
P(Blue) =
4 red +5 blue+11 yellow marbles

5 bluemarbles
P(Blue) =
20 marbles

1
P(Blue) = or 0.25 or 25% probability that a blue marble will be picked.
4

f. Developing Mastery The spinner is spin once. Determine the probability of each event.

A. What is the probability of getting letter F? P(F)=

1
P(F) = or 0.1 or 10%
10

B. What is the probability of getting a vowel? P(vowel)=

3
P(F) = or 0.33 or 33.33%
10
C. What is the probability of getting color yellow? P(yellow)=

1
P(F) = or 0.1 or 10%
10

This implies that simple events are the events where one experiment happens at
a time, and it may have a single outcome. And the probability of any event is a
number (a fraction, a decimal, or a percent).

g. Finding practical Let us have an activity, I have here 2 Spinner Maze and you are going to solve
application of concepts the given probability of simple event. Start with the “[START] box” and work
and skills in daily living your way through the maze until you reach the “[FINISH] box”. Give all the
answers as a fraction in simplest form. I will the divide the class into four
groups.

h. Making generalizations How can we use the knowledge in probability in our daily life?
and abstractions about
the lesson One of the uses of Probability in our daily life is through decision making.
Like for example, you are going to Supermarket, but the weather forecast shows
50% chance of raining, you must decide if you are still going to supermarket or
not. Another example, for the girls choosing a dress when they have a date, they
have 3 dresses to choose for; it is either a blouse, a semi-formal dress, or a gown.
The importance of probability is to choose the best decision in life; to be a wise
decision maker.

i. Evaluating learning I. Answer the following question:

1. What is the probability of simple events?
2. What are the four (4) probability rules?
II. Multiple Choices: Solve for the probability of simple events.
_____ 1. A box contains 7 red balls, 5 orange balls, 4 yellow balls, 6 green balls
and 3 blue balls. What is the probability of drawing out an orange ball?
A. 2/5 B. 3/5 C. 4/5 D. 1/5
_____ 2. Of the 45 students in a class, 25 are boys. If a student is selected are
random for a field trip, what is the probability of selecting a girl?
A. 20/45 B. 10/45 C. 15/45 D. 25/45
_____ 3. John is asked to choose a day from a week. What is the probability of
choosing a day which starts with S?
A. 1/7 B. 2/7 C. 5/7 D. 1
_____ 4. Choosing a month from a year, what is the probability of selecting a
month with 31 days?
A. 7/12 B. 5/12 C. 1/12 D. 1/2
_____ 5. When a single die is rolled, find the probability of getting an 8.
A. 0% B. 25% C. 50% D. 75%

j. Additional Activities for In addition to that, in life, there are ups and downs, sometimes you fail, and
enrichment or sometimes you won, but just like in our lesson, your dreams maybe impossible
remediation but it can possible or sure to happen if you will give all your efforts and your
best to make it happen.
