PRACTICAL QUESTIONS

CHAPTER ONE
1. What is Gen Z technology?
Gen Z technology encompasses the digital tools and platforms that define the experiences of individuals
born roughly between the mid-1990s and early 2010s. This generation is characterized by its seamless
integration of smartphones, social media, online collaboration, and video content into daily life. Shaping
their communication, learning, and entertainment habits.
2. What is Artificial Intelligence?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence in machines. It involves
programming computers to think, learn, and perform tasks that traditionally require human intelligence,
such as problem-solving and decision-making. AI encompasses subfields like machine learning and
natural language processing, with applications ranging from virtual assistants to autonomous vehicles.

3. Who is known as the Father of Computers?

Charles Babbage is known as the Father of Computers for his pioneering work on the concept of a
programmable mechanical computer in the 19th century.
CHAPTER TWO
1. Using a well labeled diagram, Describe the Harvard Architecture, stating its advantage and
disadvantage
2. Using a well labeled diagram describe the Von- Neumann architecture and list the possible
causes of Von-Neumann’s Bottleneck?

3. With the aid of a simple block diagram, illustrate the relationship between the constituent part of
a system, and the internal buses with respect to Von-Neumann and Harvard Architecture.
4. List out the differences between RAM and ROM
5. Itemize types of RAM and List out their differences in a tabular form
6. List out examples of the following components of a computer respectively
i. Input devices ii. Output devices iii. Primary storage devices iv. Secondary storage devices
v. Operating system vi. System Bus
7. Explain Interrupt and list types of interrupts
CHAPTER THREE
1. Define the following Terms with respect to Performance in Computer Architecture:

I. Response Time (ET)

II. Throughput
III. Clock cycle time
IV. Clock speed
V. Clock per Instruction

2. Suppose the following system enhancement is considered below:

Faster CPU
Separate Processors for different tasks.
As a System’s Manager, relate how these enhancements would affect Response– time, Bandwidth or
both in respect to System Performance?

3. Suppose a system task takes 1.5 billion instructions to execute on a processor running at
2.0GHz. Using the information provided in the table below, as a system’s manager, determine
the response time for which the following measures were recorded.

Instruction Frequency of occurrence No of cycles per

Category (%) instruction
Branch 30 5
ALU 45 4
Load 25 6

4. Using the information for three different processors (P1, P2, P3) provided in the table below
Clock rate (MHz) CPI
M1 4.0 3.5
M2 2.5 2.5
M3 3.0 2.0
(Assume they all execute the same instruction set)
Determine the performance of each processor expressed in instruction/sec
