SOP- Safe Operating Procedure
NOTE: DO NOT use this machine/equipment unless you have been trained in its safe use and
operation

Description of Work: SOLAR PV MODULES LOADING ON ROOF TOP


Potential Hazards Hazard
• Unloading of material from vehicles
• Reversing vehicles
• Walking/working under suspended load.
• Unauthorized entry to exclusion zone around
crane and swing radius.
• Unsafe lifting technique.
• Material falling from height.

Safe Work Procedure Checklist:


1. PRE-Operation/Task: • Operatives must complete project HSE +WW inductions
• All should have their medical insurance cards & Emirates ID with them.
• All should enter to the site with the Mandatory & Job specific PPEs. Refer their Mandatory PPE &
Job specific PPE in the Method statement.
• DSTI to be conducted by supervisor near to the work spot prior to start any activity.
• Supervisor & workers should visually inspect their work area, equipment, plants, materials etc. prior
to start their activity.
• Ensure that all tools have been inspected and color coded/tagged to ensure that the plant
department inspected them prior to issue
• Guide the movement of delivery vehicles and control operatives.
• Unauthorized persons not allowed in work area
• Barricade the work area, communicate to the nearby activities and watch for any moving
machineries at the work spot.
• Ensure safe access/egress into & out of the area
• Ensure effective lighting requirements installed. Min 50 Lux

2. Operation/Task Loading/Unloading using mobile crane (if the units do not come with wooden pallets)
• Necessary legal documents must be obtained and in place prior to lifting.
• Ensure that the trailer is parked on a flat surface before starting to offload
• Material should not be dropped on the ground strongly which may lead to material damage
• A proper lifting plan must be designed and communicated to all personnel engaged in the lifting
operation.
• Lifting shall be done through the lifting eyes on top side of the SOLAR PV MODULES.
• Ensure suitable straps to hold the load are available and these should be hanged through the lifting
eye on the top side of the SOLAR PV MODULES.
• All the employees must attend site safety induction prior to enter the site.
• Ensure Valid PTW is available from Contractor prior to start the work.
• Approved MSRA Should be communicated to the workforce.
• All the artisans must be wearing mandatory Personal Protective Equipment’s.
• Ensure all third-party certificates for the Equipment’s/operator & lifting gears are valid.
• Ensure testing agency used for lifting equipment must be certified by the EIAC
• Rigging should be done by competent Rigger only.
• The load(s) must be inspected by the operator/rigger to confirm that the load is evenly distribute on
the spreader bar and adequately secured.
• Ensure vehicles and equipment’s are inspected prior to use.
• Assign flagman for vehicles & machineries.
• Make sure lifting area is properly barricaded with signages to avoid unauthorized entry and
monitored by concerned person.
• position the trailer in a location that is as level as possible and chock the wheels.
• Ensure the ground condition is sound enough prior to fix the crane outrigger.
• Ensure specific training on manual handling methods given to the employees and advise to follow
the manual lifting procedures.
• Provide and ensure Mandatory PPE being used by the involved employees
• Spreader bars should be inspected and certified by 3rd party approved by EIAC.
• No person will place themselves between the load and the trailer/lifting equipment or any other
pinch point locations that may arise while loading/offloading.
• Work must be performed in presence of concerned Supervision staffs/Appointed lifting in charge.
• Ensure offloading area is level and clear and well lit
• Access should be free from obstruction
• Ensure adequate illumination, signage and barricading in the storage area.
• Ensure barricading is in place around the lifting zone and the loading area.
• Placement of banksman to deter workers and unessential personnel from entering the lifting zone,
the loading and unloading area and/or walking under suspended load.
• Maintain proper housekeeping in the material storage area and in the offloading area.
• Never stand under the suspended load.
• Ensure Enough taglines shall be used to control the movement of the load.

• Always follow the instructions from the rigger during the lifting.
• The straps should be utilized to keep the remaining load secure in place, as well as, a means to
support the pipe/cylindrical stock to prevent rolling.

Using forklift (if materials come with pallets)


• Competent operators to be engaged with 3rd party test certificate to operate boom loader Operators
not to exceed safe operating speeds.
• Loads must never obstruct the view of the operator.
• Forklift operator must be third party certified.
• Forklift operator and drivers to follow site safety requirements, i.e. adhering to site speed limits.
• Trained flagman to be engaged for directing the operator. All persons to stand clear of loads being
loaded or unloaded.
• Daily pre-start and weekly inspections of forklift. Planned maintenance schedules implemented and
adhered too.
• All persons to stand clear of loads being loaded or unloaded.
• Mobile plant and vehicles to be fitted with acoustic reverse alarms.
• No persons to stand underneath or close to suspended loads.
• SWL needs to be displayed.
• Proper communication between banksman/operator by means of radios or hand signals.

3. POST-Operation/Task:

 Waste to be regularly removed from site.
