Dear Parents/Carers,

Please find enclosed your child’s Year 11 Yearly Report. This report is the Preliminary Higher School Certificate second semester report and reflects your child’s application,
participation and achievement over the second half of the year, as well as showing your child’s progress. It will enable you and your child to consider strategies that will help support
his or her learning throughout the Higher School Certificate. It should also indicate areas for improvement for your child to focus on.

Teachers have given advice for how your son/daughter can maintain or develop their learning growth. Please read through and discuss these comments with your child to ensure that
they understand what plans they can put in place to reach their learning potential. This may also be an opportunity for students to articulate areas in which they feel they require
greater clarity or support. It is important to note that the Pastoral Care Program has a focus on addressing the needs of Stage 6 students. The program (continuing into 2024) is designed
to assist students to identify and manage the pressure of senior schooling as they undertake the
Higher School Certificate.

It is pleasing to see that many students have taken the opportunity to get involved in the extracurricular activities available at the College. Students are encouraged to speak to their
Pastoral Care Teacher about how their own interests and skills could be extended through the activities that the College provides. I also encourage students to speak with the 2023
student leaders to develop new initiatives and also strive to participate in all Pastoral Care and College activities and events throughout their last year at Magdalene.

Important dates for the remainder of the Term, and the beginning of 2024 are as follows:
2023
Tuesday 12 December 2023 College End of Year Mass
Wednesday 13 December 2023 End of Year Awards/ Presentation Day - in the Alan McManus Hall
Thursday 14 December 2023 College Activity Day & Last day for students
Friday 15 December 2023 Parent/Career/Student/Teacher interviews
Monday 18 December 2023
Staff Professional Learning Days (Pupil Free Days)
Tuesday 19 December 2023
2024
Tuesday 30 January 2024
Staff Professional Learning Days
Wednesday 31 January 2024
Thursday 1 February 2024 Year 7 and 12 return to College in Full Academic Uniform
Friday 2 February 2024 Whole College return in Full Academic Uniform

Teachers will be available by appointment for Parent/Carer/Student/Teacher interviews on Friday 15th December 2023. Details will be forwarded regarding the booking system in due
course.

The importance of partnership has never been more critical at this time in your child’s education. As such, I encourage you to discuss these results and feedback with your child and
areas in which they can improve. Please feel free to contact myself or key staff at the College if you have any queries.

Yours sincerely,

Teacher Comment

John is a reliable and valued member of our Pastoral Care Class. He is commended for working towards his goal of being committed and positive
towards his learning across all of his subjects. It has been noted by John’s teachers that he must focus on his application, planning and
organisation as these are areas requiring growth. In order to continue improving his results, John is encouraged to set small achievable learning
goals in all of his subjects and to implement a study regime to further consolidate his learning.

Student Goal

My goal is to be committed and positive toward my learning across all of my subjects. I will reach this goal by the end of Semester Two. I will
achieve this goal by ensuring to involve myself in classroom discussions, seeking feedback on my attitude in each subject, and meeting deadlines.
I will know I have achieved this when reviewing my teacher's feedback on my Semester Two report in regard to my work ethic, along with
reviewing Google Classroom to ensure there are no outstanding tasks.

Student Reflection

Upon reflection of my Semester One goal and my results in my classes this year, I need to continue working towards overcoming the obstacle of
poor study habits by setting time aside to study after school.

Teacher Comment

John has demonstrated some ability in addressing the demands of the Preliminary HSC Studies of Religion 1 Course. He has struggled, though,
to provide the necessary depth and detail required in both short answer and extended response questions in this subject. John is encouraged to
develop a rigorous home study program to revise key course concepts and to practise deconstructing questions and aligning his responses to the
syllabus.

Teacher Comment

John is an attentive student who has demonstrated a sound understanding of the content in the Standard English Course. He is capable of
communicating ideas in his written responses, however, he does not embed enough detailed evidence to effectively answer the question. John
would benefit from the regular composition of critical and creative responses under timed conditions and acting upon the teacher feedback
provided to him.

Teacher Comment

John has demonstrated an overall basic understanding of the content and skills covered in Chemistry, with particular struggles in Module 4,
possibly influenced by his limited application in the lead-up to the Preliminary Examination. Despite his desire to improve, he has shown sparse
engagement with coursework, often submitting tasks late and with partially completed responses. John does display a good grasp of Module 1
concepts and a knack for recognising patterns and trends in the Periodic table. To enhance his performance, he should focus on actively
participating in class by actively creating Cornell notes, making a genuine effort to complete in-class activities, and ensuring timely and quality
work submissions. Seeking assistance when needed and heeding teacher advice is strongly encouraged. With increased commitment and
engagement, John may achieve the improvement he aims for.

Teacher Comment

John has found success throughout the second semester in Mathematics Advanced. He has shown an improved attentiveness and application in
class, which has resulted in demonstrating an improved understanding of the course content. However, his Preliminary Examination results were
not reflective of this improved focus. John is encouraged to maintain this improved focus on developing his understanding of the course material
as he moves into the Higher School Certificate. He is also encouraged to establish a consistent revision schedule covering both Preliminary and
HSC material to ensure his results are reflective of this effort.

Teacher Comment

John has shown some success in Mathematics Extension 1. While there were minor improvements throughout the semester in the topic of
Polynomials, he has continued to struggle to meet the expectations of such a demanding course. As such, John has made the decision to end his
pursuit of Mathematics Extension 1, and he is encouraged to direct his attention towards further establishing a regular study routine where
fundamental mathematical concepts are revised.

Teacher Comment

John has demonstrated an overall basic application of the content and skills in Physics this semester. He has selected appropriate variables and
experimental controls to ensure valid first-hand investigations are conducted appropriately in class. John has conducted experiments in class with
the aim of collecting valid and reliable data. He has also applied appropriate scientific language to communicate his understanding of a variety of
physics concepts throughout the course. John may benefit from consolidating his knowledge through regular revision of the content and refining
his Working Scientifically skills through practise and reviewing feedback.
