Plant SCADA-MQTT-2

The document discusses MQTT communications support in Citect/Plant SCADA. Currently there is no native driver support, but it is planned for the 2024 release. Workarounds include using an OPC UA client driver and Edge to connect to MQTT, or an OI server, OPC DA, and Kepware OPC UA server with an MQTT driver.

Currently, there is no Native driver support to have direct solution/drivers for MQTT in
Citect/Plant SCADA. This feature is in roadmap in Plant SCADA 2024 release. Published On
However, there are workarounds make it possible. Dec 11, 2023

Workaround 1: Via Edge and the Citect / Plant SCADA OPC UA Client driver
Products
This is applicable for Citect SCADA v8.0 onwards, since the OPC UA Client requires at least this
version to operate successfully.

Workaround 2: To integrate MQTT solutions/devices in conjunction with Citect/ Plant SCADA,

one recommended workaround is to connect through the AVEVA Communication Drivers (OI

Server) MQTT Sparkplug B solution, via OPC DA communications for data throughput. To
subscribe to topics from MQTT, consider using an OPC UA server. More in detail:

1. To publish SCADA tags to MQTT topics, consider the combination of the Citect / Plant
SCADA OPC DA Server with the WW System Platform OI Gateway (< 32 tags free)
2. To subscribe to topics from MQTT devices, consider using the Kepware OPC UA server
with MQTT driver. To connect with Citect / Plant SCADA you will need to use the OPC UA
Client driver. This is applicable for Citect SCADA v8.0 onwards, since the OPC UA Client
requires at least this version to operate successfully.

Your workflow will look something similar to Figure 1 below. For more details, refer to the
