Activities

3. Abstraction The Automotive battery supplies electric current to operate the starting motor
and ignition system while starting the engine. It also acts as a voltage stabilizer
by supplying current for the lights, radio, and other electrical accessories when
the alternator is not handling the load. In addition, the battery supplies a small
current to the volatile ceremony in the electronic control (ECM) while the Ignition
key is off.
TYPES OF BATTERY
Below are two types of automotive batteries. On the left, caps can be removed
to check the battery state of charge and to add water if needed. On the right, a
maintenance-free battery that requires no additional water. The charge indicator
in the top shows the state of change.

BATTERY CONSTRUCTION
The battery case is molded plastic. The plates are molded to plate straps to
form plate groups. To make a battery cell, a positive plate group fits into a
negative plate group. Porous separators are placed between the plates.
This prevents positive and negative plates from touching while allowing
electrolyte to circulate between the plate. The assembly of plate groups and
separators is an element. The elements fit into compartments in the battery
case to favor cells. Heavy leads connectors attach to the cell terminals and
connect the cells in series. A plastic cover forms the top of the battery. Some
batteries have openings in the cover from when filler plugs or vent caps are
removed to add water maintenance free batteries do not have removable caps.
Engine Starter
Without batteries, it is almost impossible to start auto-engines. The battery acts
as the car’s powerhouse, storing chemical energy that immediately converts to
electrical upon igniting the car. The batteries then distribute this power to parts
of the vehicle that require it.
Power Storage
The battery stores the power needed to restart the car and run other electronics.
An ideal battery, even after long-term storage, should be able to power the
vehicle when properly connected. As soon as the car starts working, the
alternator recharges the battery to ensure enough power to run all parts of the
car. Also, the battery begins to store chemical energy again for future use.
Regulates Voltage
There are cases where other car components may overwork, which can lead to
accruing overly high voltage, which is harmful to the vehicle. The modern-day
battery is equipped with features that allow it to absorb some of this energy,
thereby regulating the developing voltage. Hence, the car gets protection based
on this battery function.
