private higher learning institution located in Kuala Lumpur and their Cumulative Grade
Point Average (CGPA) score will be recorded. A researcher is interested to study the
relationship between students’ current academic performance based on their CGPA and
their past education achievements. Based on the available information, students’ past
education achievements had been classified into three groups; namely, Excellent, Moderate,
and Low. There are a total of 800 students in this faculty and the number of students in each
of the three groups is 350, 200, and 250 respectively. The information needed for the above
study is readily available from the Faculty’s Academic Affairs Department.
i. State the population and the sampling frame for the above study.
ii. Identify one of variables of interest for the above study. State its type and its level
of measurement.
iii. What is the most appropriate sampling technique to be used in this study?
iv. Briefly explain how the sample will be selected using the technique suggested in
(iii).
v. For the above study, state what type of data was gathered and give ONE
advantage of using this data.
