b. Handrails
All handrail pipe, stanchions, and sockets shall be ASTM A53, Grade B
or ASTM A500 Grade B.
4.2 Furnished by the OWNER
4.2.1 All items designated as furnished by the OWNER will be delivered to the
CONTRACTOR’s yard. It shall be the CONTRACTOR’s responsibility to
receive, offload, store, protect from loss or damage, keep segregated,
maintain identity, and use in economical manner all OWNER-furnished
material.
5.0 DESIGN
5.1 General
The skid shall be designed and constructed so that the complete package, including all
subsequently installed equipment and piping, can be lifted by a single hook with
slings attached to four (4) padeyes. A spreader frame or bar shall be provided by
CONTRACTOR if any of the four slings contact the equipment during the lift.
5.2 The loads to be considered in the skid design shall include the weight of all materials
to be permanently affixed to the skid plus the weight of water when all vessels and

piping are full. Deflection of primary beams and girders in skids and modules shall
be limited to L/300 where “L” is the length of the beam or girder between supports.
5.3 Design of the skid shall include consideration of the installation forces and dynamic
loads described in API RP 2A, Section 2.4.
5.4 Each padeye (lift point) shall be designed and constructed with a factor of safety of at
least two (2) based on the static weight of the package using AISC allowable stresses
without 1/3 increase. The static weight used will be based on the dry (empty but
including installed appurtenances) weight of equipment, vessels and piping. Padeyes
shall be readily accessible for rigging and oriented toward the center of gravity of the
complete package or the spreader bar eye.
5.5 The following lift information shall be given on the padeye drawing:
5.6 Stairs, ladders, cages, platforms, handrails, etc. shall be provided as required and shall
conform to the following requirements as well as those of OSHA:
5.6.1 Ladders shall have a minimum width of 16 inches. Rungs shall be round
with 3/4” minimum diameter. Ladders 15 feet tall or taller shall be equipped
with cages beginning approximately 7’-6” above the skid or platform deck.
5.6.2 Platform and stairs shall be made of bar grating per Section 4.1.4. Platforms
shall have a minimum width 36 inches. All platforms shall be equipped
with two-rail handrails fabricated from 1-1/2” Sch. 40 pipe and kickplates.
All stairs shall be equipped with two-rail handrails.
5.6.3 Ladders, cages, platforms, stairs, handrails and kickplates shall be hot-
dipped galvanized after fabrication.
The deck of the skid shall be provided with grating or 1/4” floor plate (checkered
optional) as specified on the construction drawings. All floor plate shall be seal
welded. Deck splices shall be made over skid beams or other structural supports. All
grating decks shall be installed with galvanized anchor clips and self-tapping stainless
steel bolts. No welding of galvanized grating will be allowed.

Drain pans shall be furnished under all equipment handling hydrocarbons unless
specified otherwise on the drawings. Drain pans shall be designed to collect liquids
from equipment and piping. A minimum slope of 1/4” per foot to the drain line may
be used to prevent the accumulation of liquids in the pan. The drain shall be a
minimum two (2) inch threaded coupling. The drain pan shall be constructed of 1/4”
plate, and adequate support shall be provided to minimize the formation of low spots.
5.10 Equipment and piping shall not extend beyond the skid edge unless approved by the
COMPANY.
5.11 Machined mounting pads shall be provided for all large rotating equipment (250 Hp
and larger). Mounting pads shall be welded to structural members.
6.0 FABRICATION
6.1 General
All fabrication shall be in accordance with the AISC “Specification for the Design,
Fabrication and Erection of Structural Steel for Buildings” and applicable structural
drawings.
6.2 Welding
6.2.1 All welding shall be in accordance with AWS D1.1-2002, the construction
drawings and as specified herein. The welding procedure shall be
established in accordance with AWS D1.1-2002 and be approved by
COMPANY prior to welder testing.
6.2.2 Continuous welds on both sides will be used to connect flat bar stiffeners,
webs of tees and legs of angles to plate, shapes and pipes.
6.2.3 All faying surfaces shall be seal welded to prevent the collection of moisture
in cracks.
6.3 Holes may be cut in the middle third of the web of the beam for drain penetrations. A
flat plate double is required for each hole three (3) inch and larger. Cut outs in the
flanges are not allowed.
6.4 Tolerances
6.4.1 The overall length or width of the package shall not vary more than 1/4”. A
diagonal measurement across corners shall not vary more than 3/8”.

6.4.2 Centerline dimensions shall be held within 1/4” for dimensions involving
field tie-ins. This tolerance applies to overall dimensions and is not
cumulative.
7.0 PAINTING
Surface preparation and painting of the skid assembly shall be performed in accordance with
Spec. No. 801 - Protective Coatings.
8.0 INSPECTION
The responsibility for quality control and inspection rests with CONTRACTOR.
COMPANY reserves the right to inspect materials, equipment and work at any time to assure
they are in accordance with the specifications. All items not in accordance with the
specifications shall be replaced as required by CONTRACTOR at no additional cost to
COMPANY.
9.1 CONTRACTOR shall load the completed package on the vehicle or vessel carrying
the assembly and shall secure the package to the vehicle or vessel to the
COMPANY’s or, if applicable, Marine Surveyor’s satisfaction. The Marine Surveyor
shall be provided by the COMPANY.
9.2 CONTRACTOR shall supply padding or other protection required to prevent damage
to equipment and paint.
9.3 CONTRACTOR shall repair all damages that occur during loadout regardless of the
cause of the damage.
