Gyprock Base Coat 20, 45, 60, 90

Base Coats are a setting type jointing compound that


provides superior tape adhesion and joint strength. They are
used for the first and second coat in a three-coat jointing
system, along with jointing tapes. Base Coats are available in
powder form and are mixed with water to a workable paste.
Four different options are available in the Base Coat range,
each with a defined setting time for varying applications: Product Features
• Base Coat 20 - 20 minute working life for smaller
projects and patching.
• Base Coat 45 - 45 minute working life for medium First and Second Coats
projects. Suitable for the tape coat and

Gyprock Base Coat is used for the tape coat and second
coat in a three-coat plasterboard jointing system, suitable for
bedding in the jointing tape before application of a topping Versatile Application
coat. To achieve the ultimate joint finish, it is recommended Hand or machine tool applied.
Gyprock Base Coat is used in conjunction with Gyprock
Topping or All-Purpose compounds.

• Do not use Base Coat as a finish coat. Campaign Ltd.
• Allow Gyprock Base Coat to set completely in between
coat applications.
• Base Coat 20 is designed for hand application.
• If jointing must be carried out during severe drying
conditions, only small quantities of compound should be
mixed.
• Always use clean containers and equipment.
• Clean tools thoroughly after use.
• Ensure surfaces are free from dust or dirt.

Storage
Store plaster in a dry place. Do not place bags directly on
concrete floors or damp ground. Long term storage may
affect plaster setting times, and finish quality.
Plasterboard Finishing
Jointing and finishing of Gyprock plasterboard interior installations is to be carried out in
accordance with FIGURE 1 and TABLE 1 in this document, and the following details, so as to
provide a smooth surface for decorating. Stopping and external corner beads are to be applied to
all edges subject to damage. A Level 4 Finish is generally the accepted level of finish for residential
construction as detailed in AS/NZS2589.1 and is also recommended for commercial construction.
This requires a three-coat system, consisting of:

• Tape and tape coat


• Second coat and
• Finish (or topping) coat.
