MR-based LTE network optimization

Measurement is an important function of the LTE system, and the system needs to use the
measurement results to trigger events such as cell selection/reselection and handover. At the same
time, statistical analysis of a large number of measurement data can also be used to find network
problems. And MR data is more comprehensive, more complete, and easier to obtain measurement
fields, and the accuracy of analyzing problems is greatly improved. This program mainly explains MR
related technologies, the contents are as follows:

1. What are the basic concepts of MR?

In the previous communication system, MR means that the mobile terminal periodically reports the
downlink signal strength, quality and other information of the cell where it is located to the base station
on the service channel at certain time intervals, and the base station compares the downlink
information reported by the terminal and the uplink information collected by itself. Uploaded to the
base station controller, and collected and counted by it. The MR concept in the LTE system is basically
the same as the previous system, the difference is that the LTE system does not have a base station
controller, and the original measurement data or statistical calculation is reported to the MR server.

2. What are the principles and advantages of MR data acquisition?

The MR data mainly comes from the UE and the ENB, as well as the measurement report calculated in
the process of radio resource management. The original measurement data is either reported to OMC-R
through statistical calculation for storage in the form of statistical data, and an MRS file is generated, or
directly reported to OMC-R for storage in the form of sample data, and finally an MRO file is
generated. The schematic diagram is as follows:

The data of MR is mainly used to evaluate the situation of the network. For example, the coverage of
the entire cell can be evaluated through RSRP/RSRQ reported by different UEs;

· The amount of collected data is divided into UE-level data and cell-level data. The cell-level data is
either collected according to subframes or collected according to the entire cell.

The large amount of data is closely related to user behavior, and it is easier to analyze and find
problems. Compared with the drive test data, the measurement data is more comprehensive, more
complete, easier to obtain measurement fields, and has abundant analysis methods, which greatly
improves the accuracy of analysis problems.

4. Introduction of MR positioning technology?

At present, there are mainly the following positioning methods in the industry:

(1) APP positioning method

By parsing the S1-U port signaling, the latitude and longitude reported by the user are extracted to
obtain the user location information. The accuracy of this method is relatively accurate, but accurate
positioning can only be achieved outdoors, and since the longitude and latitude of most apps are
encrypted, they cannot be directly parsed, resulting in limited available sample points.

(2) TA + AOA localization

The distance between the base station and the UE is estimated according to the TA, and then the
approximate location information of the terminal can be obtained according to the information of the
AOA. The positioning accuracy of this method is affected by the environment. The positioning accuracy
is relatively accurate in open areas, and the positioning accuracy is poor in areas with many buildings,
and the positioning range is about 100-200 meters.

(3) Triangular positioning

According to the MR field strength information and industrial parameter information, use the triangle or
polygon formed by the main serving cell and two or more strongest neighbors to calculate the center
point, and perform field strength weighted offset to obtain the positioning result. This method has poor
practicability, and the incomplete information and low precision of adjacent areas will lead to large
positioning errors.

(4) Positioning based on fingerprint database

This method is also called feature matching method, which originates from database positioning. It is
necessary to create a fingerprint database in advance to store discrete signal strengths and position
coordinates. Since the multipath transmission of the signal is dependent on the environment, the
multipath characteristics of the signal are different in different locations, showing a very strong
particularity. Location fingerprinting technology effectively utilizes multipath effects, combining
multipath features with location information. Since the multipath effect of the channel is unique at the
same location, the multipath structure can be used as the fingerprint in the database, the received
wireless signal strength can be matched with the fingerprint in the database, and the closest result can
be found for positioning. Adapt to more complex environments, distinguish indoor and outdoor users,
and then achieve indoor hierarchical coverage evaluation and service positioning.

5. What is the role of MR in network optimization ?

The MR measurement report has massive data and rich content, and it has very important use value and
reference value in the daily basic optimization. However, if we want to increase the use value of MR, we
should also start from multiple perspectives, combine economic data, signaling data, etc., to jointly
promote the solution of network and market problems.
