The Sesotec metal detector works with the so-called "balanced coil" principle:
The transmitter winding in the search coil creates a high-frequency electromagnetic field, which is re-
ceived by symmetrically placed receiver windings. The windings are connected against each other;
when undisturbed, the system is in balance.
An electrically conductible object within the detection area disrupts this balance, and the electronics
unit creates a switching signal.
A "learning process” makes it possible to suppress the conductivity of the product itself. Deviations
from the taught-in product are usually caused by metal contaminants, which are detected by the sys-
tem with high precision.
The metal detector is equipped with comprehensive test and analysis software to ensure fault-free op-
eration and retracing of product errors.

8.2 Commissioning, metal detector and separator with PRIMUS+ Control Unit
Commissioning can be started when the metal detector or separator has been properly installed and
mounted.
Every Sesotec metal detector is factory-preconfigured and immediately boots into its operating state.
Initial settings must then be performed as follows:
1. Make sure that nothing is still lying in the detection tunnel of the coil.
2. Make sure that the mains cable is plugged in and that the metal detector is supplied with power. If
the metal detector has been installed in combination with a conveyor belt, the metal detector can
be turned on with the corresponding control elements directly at the conveyor belt controller. The
metal detector will then boot up.
3. When the metal detector with PRIMUS+ Control Unit has booted up, the operating screen is dis-
played on the LCD graphic display, the "Operating / Fault" status LED lights up in green, and the
metal detector is ready for operation.
If a signal device is connected, the operating lamp lights up in green. Make sure that based on
these operating instructions you are familiar with the navigation and meaning of the menus at the
PRIMUS+ Control Unit.
4. With the current factory settings a Sesotec metal detector is able to detect metal parts.
For the size and type of metal parts please refer to the [Technical Data Sheet of the supplied
Sesotec metal detector/separator "Type"].

and disconnect the system from the mains voltage.
12.1 Maintenance
The PRIMUS+ Control Unit is maintenance-free, yet it is still appropriate to inspect the equipment in
regular intervals:
• Are all the fastening screws tight?
• Is the housing seal in perfect condition, and does it provide proper sealing?
• Also check all the cables for possible damage (e.g. at the cable sheath).
12.2 Cleaning
12.2.1 Hints for cleaning
- Please ensure you follow the instructions below.
- Specific machine components must be cleaned with specific substances. Please use the correct
materials and clean at regular intervals as suggested.
- If the building is being cleaned ensure the machines are covered up.
The following must not be used for cleaning:
- Sharp, hard or pointed objects
- Water or steam jet appliances
- Compressed air
- Hazardous and solvent-containing materials
- Cleaning agents that may attack the materials used
- Cleaning agents containing chlorine.
12. Maintenance and cleaning
Stainless steel models are extremely weatherproof and are therefore able to withstand most environ-
mental conditions.
However, even stainless steel can be susceptible to a slight film of rust.
These deposits are caused by contact corrosion and can be removed by following the instructions be-
low:
- Use a stainless steel cleaner: in principle any stainless steel cleaner may be used. Please ensure
you read the instructions prior to use.
- Use only cleaning agents that are halogen-free (i.e. without chlorides and fluorides), and salt and

14. Decommissioning, preservation, shipping and waste disposal
DANGER
There is danger of electric shocks in the electronics housing.
➢ Disconnect the metal detector or separator from the mains supply before you start
any kind of work.
➢ Also completely disconnect any external circuits (e.g. at relays) from the metal de-
tector.
WARNING
Improper decommissioning, preservation, shipping, and waste disposal may lead to serious
personal injuries and property damage.
➢ The instructions below must always be observed.
➢ Observe the transport information in chapter 6.2 “Transport”!
➢ Observe the ambient conditions
[see Technical Data Sheet "PRIMUS+ Control Unit"]
Personnel qualification:
Sesotec metal detectors and separators only may be decommissioned by instructed personnel with
basic technical training.
Helpers only may be used according to their qualification and under permanent supervision.
Personal protective equipment:
The following personal protective equipment must be worn:
14.1 Decommissioning
Decommissioning means that the metal detector is put out of operation for a longer period of time
(longer than 3 months.)
Prior to decommissioning various kinds of work must be performed at the metal detector.
Perform decommissioning:
1. Disconnect the power supply.
2. Remove all products from the metal detector.
3. Clean the metal detector [see chapter 12.2 "Cleaning"]
14.2 Preservation
Preservation means the storing of the metal detector for a longer period of time (longer than 3 months)
and the preparation for shipping of the metal detector.
• Prior to preservation the metal detector must be cleaned! [see chapter12,2 "Cleaning”].
• After cleaning, rub down all the steel parts with cleaning oil, e.g. Nirostol 55 (cleaning and
maintenance oil which meets food industry standards).
• Prior to packing or preservation, all the parts must be dry and dust-free.
• The metal detector must be stored in a closed room and covered with tarpaulins for dirt pro-
tection.
• Observe the information for storage [see chapter 6.3, “Storage”].
• Observe the ambient conditions [see Technical Data Sheet "PRIMUS+ Control Unit”].

14.3 Shipping
1. Always observe the information for transport [see chapter 6.2 "Transport”]!
Use suitable lifting equipment to lift the metal detector or separator at the fastening rails. Place
the metal detector on a transport pallet, secure it against slipping (screw the fastening rails to the
transport pallet), and use lashing straps across the coil housing to tie it to the transport pallet.
Use a lift truck to carefully transport the metal detector on the transport pallet. Secure the
transport pallet against shifting on the lift truck.
ATTENTION
Incorrect lifting may lead to serious damage at the system.
➢ Do not lift the metal detector or separator at the throughput opening!
➢ The side walls or attached parts of the system must not be compressed by ropes
or chains pulling at an angle!
2. Choose packing that is suitable for the type and size of the equipment, taking into account
whether the shipment is for export by sea or airfreight, or for national or international road
transport. The packing material must protect the goods from all damage under normal transport
conditions.
3. Depending on the size, weight and nature of the goods packing in cardboard boxes, boxed pallets
etc. is only suitable for road transport.
Use reinforced card, corrugated cardboard, blister packing and shredded paper to fill and protect
the goods.
Electrostatic sensitive components (electronic boards, electronic modules, etc.) must be packed
in antistatic foil or foil bags prior to packing! ( t h i s i s e s s e n t i a l ! )
Stick additional warning labels on the outside of the packaging e.g. "Attention, electronic equip-
ment, do not drop,” etc. The packing should be sealed with adhesive tape and, where the weight
exceeds 50 kg, additionally with wrapping tape.
3a. When packing for international road transport use the instructions above (see point 2). Larger and
heavier shipments must also be protected as for export in wooden crates. Care must be taken to
ensure that the goods inside the packing are protected against corrosion.
Any parts that will corrode easily must be wrapped in oil paper or corrosion-protective foil. Care
must be taken to prevent the components moving around within the packaging.
3b. International air freight shipments must be packed in wooden crates or on export paltainers.
Care must be taken that the goods are secure and well-protected inside the packing. Any parts
liable to corrode must be wrapped in oil paper, protective foil or sprayed with anti-corrosion spray.
3c. Sea-freight must be packed in seaworthy export crates. These crates can be obtained from spe-
cialist suppliers.
The crates must be lined with oil paper to make them resistant to sea water and prevent corro-
sion. In addition the goods must be protected against corrosion by use of a spray or by wrapping
in protective foil.
Care must be taken to ensure that the goods cannot move around inside the crate.
After packing the sea-freight crates must be properly closed.
The sea crates must also be fastened externally with securing tapes.
During loading care must be taken not to damage the external packaging.
The carrier must certify that the shipment has been accepted and loaded correctly by detailing
this on the bill of lading, loading list etc.
