Master of Science in Construction Management

Program Description

The Master of Science in Construction Management under the PUP School of

Distance Education, Open University System prepares students for the operational,

supervisory and managerial opportunities in the construction industry. Students

will be exposed on the key elements of management, methods, requirements,

ethics and legal aspects in construction, and developmental aspects of the design

process. In addition, learners will gain focused knowledge and specialized skills on

the current industry trends, productivity tools and techniques allowing learners to

apply what they have obtained from their courses to the current situations of their

working environment to continuously enhance their overall competitiveness as

professionals and entrepreneurs towards national productivity.

Vision

The Master of Science in Construction Management program envisions graduates

with expertise and competence, and shall become leaders in the field of

construction management research and practice.

Mission
The MSCM program's mission is to produce graduates with the basic knowledge

and skills essential for successful leadership positions in the construction industry.

Objectives

1. To develop high quality leaders and experts in the field of construction

management to effectively lead a construction project and business

2. To enhance conceptual,analytical an practical skills in the field of

construction management

3. To provide the technical proficiency, financial knowledge, the

entrepreneurial skills and the business acumen needed for success in this

ever-evolving industry

4. To integrate techniques, materials and methods of sustainable building into

the construction process

Admission Requirements

Admission to the master's degree program requires:

1. A bachelors degree in engineering and architecture obtained from

universities and colleges recognized by the Commission of Higher Education


2. A scholastic rating of at least 2.0, B, or 85% in the undergraduate course.

Those who are unable to meet the requirements may apply and may be

admitted on probation of one (1) school semester.

3. Work experience in the construction industry is needed.

The following should be submitted to the PUP Open University Registrar:

• Application for Admission with two 1 ½” x 1 ½” ID Picture

• Transcript of Records of highest degree earned from the school last

attended

• Letter of Recommendation (from the immediate supervisor)

• Certificate of employment or record of service or experience in his/her

professional area or any field if the applicant is employed.

Graduation Requirements

• Completion of the course requirements with no grade below 2.5, B-, or 80%

in any course work is finally considered, an overall of at least 2.0, B, or 85%.

• Passing of the written comprehensive examination

• Passing of the oral examination on the thesis
