MEASURES OF CENTRAL TENDENCY

● Is a value that describes to which a set data

will likely fall.
● The three common measures of central
tendency are the mean, median, and mode.
Mean
The mean is the most commonly used measure of
central tendency. It is also known as “average”.
Disadvantage: Means are affected by extremes

Let’s Explore No.1

Instruction:
Determine the mean using the scores of MARK
in his 7 departmental examinations.

Instruction:
The daily income of a vendor in 7 days are listed below.
Find the average income of the vendor in one week.

Day 1: P520 Day 5: P430

Day 2: P450 Day 6: P380
Day 3: P300 Day 7: P320
Day 4: P600
Median
The median is the midpoint of the data array. Before finding this
value, the data must be arranged in order, from least to greatest or
vice versa.

Instruction:
Given the ages of 7 girls: 15, 19, 14,

their ages.

Instruction:
Given the grades of Jose Manuel
below in all of his Physics classes,
determine the median.

Mode
It is the value that occurs most often in a data set. A data set can
have more than one mode or none at all.

Instruction:
Determine the mode of the following
data set:

Instruction:
SET I: 10, 10, 19, 17, 10, 16, 18, 15, 11, 11.
SET II: 25,22,29,28,24,24,21,25,29,20.
Determine the mode.
Data according to arrangement

Raw data A data that takes its original form

Array data A data arranged in ascending or

descending order

Ungrouped A data arranged in an orderly manner

data but presented in a tabular form

Grouped data A data presented in a tabular form that

includes class intervals and frequency.
