TOPIC 1
After being influenced by an advertisement on TV, you bought a product. When you got it , you realised that you
had been manipulated by the ad. Write a letter of complaint in which you give information about the product and
the place where you bought it, to the manufacturer telling him about the defects on the product, the consumers’
rights to adequate advertising, compensation, etc…

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to complain about a recent purchase of your [Mobile Phone Model] that I believe was
misrepresented in an advertisement. The TV commercial portrayed the phone as having a long-lasting battery life,
crystal-clear camera, which heavily influenced my decision to buy it.
I purchased the phone from [Store Name] on [Date] for [Price]. However, upon using it, I discovered several
issues. The battery life barely lasts a few hours, and the camera quality is poor and grainy – nowhere near what
the ad promised.
As a consumer, I have the right to truthful advertising. This ad created a misleading impression, leading me to
purchase a product that doesn't meet expectations. I request a full refund and an apology for the inconvenience.
Sincerely,
Name

SAMPLE 2
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to complain about a recent purchase of your [Shampoo Name], which I believe was
misrepresented in a television commercial. The ad portrayed the shampoo as leaving hair shiny, manageable, and
healthy. This attractive image convinced me to buy it from [Store Name] on [Date] for [Price].
However, after using the product for a while, I am extremely disappointed with the results. Instead of the
promised benefits, the shampoo has left my hair frizzy, dry, and dull. This falls far short of the claims made in the
advertisement.
As a consumer, I have the right to expect truthful advertising. The ad for your shampoo created a misleading
impression, leading me to purchase a product that doesn't deliver on its promises. Therefore, I request a full
refund for the shampoo and an apology for the inconvenience caused.
Sincerely,

Many companies do not think of the consequences of their advertisements. (moral or immoral; ethical or
unethical). Their main concern is to make as much money as possible. Write a letter to the manager of a food
company in which you complain about the consequences of their advertisements on children's health.
You may use the following notes: spend a lot of time watching advertisements of food products /eat too much
/become obese / ill blood pressure / diabetes...

Dear [Manager Name],

I am writing to express my concern about the marketing strategies employed by your company, particularly
regarding advertisements targeted towards children. While I understand the desire to increase sales, I believe the
current tactics have serious ethical and health implications.
Children are bombarded with advertisements for your food products, often featuring sugary cereals,
processed snacks, and unhealthy drinks. These commercials, filled with vibrant colours and catchy jingles, capture
children's attention and influence their preferences. This constant exposure encourages excessive consumption of
these unhealthy options, leading to overeating and potential weight gain. The long-term consequences can be
severe, including obesity, high blood pressure, and even diabetes.
Surely, your company doesn't want to contribute to childhood health problems. I urge you to consider the
ethical implications of your advertising practices. Promoting healthier options, even through engaging and
creative means, would not only benefit children's well-being but also demonstrate a commitment to responsible
marketing.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely, + [Your Name]

Write a letter of complaint to the manager of a travel agency to complain about the bad services
during your holiday.
Use the following notes:
dirty hotel / single room in front of the market / absence of activities / poor quality of food

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with the recent holiday I booked through your
travel agency to [Destination name] (booking reference: [Your booking reference number]).
Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. Upon arrival at the hotel, we were
dismayed to find the room unclean. Furthermore, despite requesting a double room, we were assigned
a single room facing a noisy marketplace, making relaxation nearly impossible.
To add to our frustration, the advertised activities were nowhere to be found. We were left with
very little to do during our stay. Finally, the quality of the food was consistently poor, which significantly
impacted our enjoyment of the holiday.
Given the significant shortcomings of the accommodation, activities, and food, I feel the holiday did
not represent good value for money. I would appreciate it if you could investigate this matter and
propose a solution, such as a partial refund or a voucher for a future trip.
I look forward to your prompt response.
Sincerely,

You bought the last genuine expensive mobile. Later you discovered it was a counterfeit product. You
are disappointed and you decide to complain. Write the letter of complaint to Mr Amrouche, Head of
the department store.

Dear Mr. Amrouche,

I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with a recent purchase I made at your
department store on [Date of Purchase]. I purchased what I believed to be a genuine [Brand Name]
mobile phone, model [Model Number], which was the last unit available at the time (Invoice # [Invoice
Number]).

Unfortunately, upon closer inspection and after attempting to use the phone, I have discovered that
it is a counterfeit product. The phone lacks the standard features and quality associated with the
genuine brand, and [ Briefly describe specific details that confirm it's counterfeit, e.g., poor build quality,
malfunctioning features, etc.].
I am incredibly disappointed by this situation, particularly considering the premium price I paid for
the phone, believing it to be authentic.
In light of this, I kindly request a full refund for the purchase. I am available to return the counterfeit
phone to your store at your earliest convenience. Please let me know the appropriate procedure for
returning the item.

Children and teens are often targeted by junk food advertisements. Write a letter of about 120 words
to Mike Brant ,the director of a fast food company to complain about their effects on those kids.

Dear Mr. Mike Brant,

I am writing to express my concern about the marketing strategies employed by your fast food
company, particularly those targeting children and teenagers. These advertisements, often featuring
vibrant colors, catchy characters, and the promise of fun, heavily influence young audiences who are still
developing healthy eating habits.
The constant exposure to these ads can lead children and teens to prioritize unhealthy options over
nutritious foods. This, in turn, can contribute to a rise in childhood obesity and diet-related health
problems.
I urge your company to reconsider its marketing approach. Perhaps you could focus on promoting
healthier options within your menu or even partner with educational institutions to emphasize balanced
diets. By promoting responsible food choices, your company can not only safeguard the well-being of
young consumers but also foster a more positive brand image.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Write a composition of 80 to 120 words on the following topic:
You bought a jacket from a supermarket but you discovered it was a counterfeit. Write a letter of
complaint to Mr Smith, the head of the department store.
Dear Mr Smith,
I am writing to express my disappointment with a recent purchase I made at your [Name of

size) but upon closer inspection at home, I discovered it to be counterfeit.
The [details about features that indicate it's counterfeit, e.g., poor stitching, low-quality material,
missing brand label] all point towards this being a fake product. This is not only misleading but also falls
short of the quality I expect from your store.
Given that I trusted your brand to provide genuine products, I am quite dissatisfied with this
experience. I would appreciate it if you could look into this matter and offer a solution. A full refund for
the jacket would be ideal.

Dear Mr Gordon,

I am writing to sincerely apologize for the unacceptable experience you encountered during your
recent self-catering holiday in Hawaii, booked through Majestic Travel. We understand your frustration
upon discovering the poor state of the apartment, particularly considering your previous complaint and
request for compensation.

Upon further investigation, we discovered a mistake was made. Another tourist couple had
unfortunately booked the same apartment and, during their stay, broke the shower and oven.
Unfortunately, the cleaning lady was unexpectedly absent that day, leading to the uncleanliness you
experienced.

We deeply regret the inconvenience and disappointment this caused. To rectify the situation, we
would like to offer you a full refund for the original apartment. Additionally, as a gesture of goodwill,
we would like to extend a complimentary one-week holiday at a luxurious resort in Hawaii. We are
confident this will provide you with the relaxing and enjoyable experience you deserve.

We take your feedback seriously and will be taking steps to ensure such a mix-up doesn't happen
again.

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We look forward to welcoming you back on a
truly exceptional vacation soon.

Sincerely,
Mrs Ann Summers
