3. (a) A manufacture of a certain product has two warehouses A and B for storing
his products. He stores 240 units of products in A and 140 units in B. Two
customers P and Q place orders for 70 and 180 units of the product
respectively. The transportation cost in Tanzania shillings for each units is
shown in the following table;
From/To Transportation
Warehouses P Q
A 40 60
B 120 180
(i) Formulate a linear programming problem for minimizing the total
transportation cost

(b) Ali express compony ships Gaming laptop and Heavy duty laptop. Long term
prediction indicates an expected demand at least 50 gaming laptops 30 heavy
duty laptops each day. Because of limitations on production capacity, no
more than 100 gaming laptop and 35 heavy duty laptops can be made daily.
To satisfy shipping order, a total of at least 100 laptop must be shipped each
day. If each Gaming laptops sold results in 4000/= loss and each heavy duty
laptop produce 100,000/= profit. How many of each should be made daily to
maximize net profit. What is the maximum profit per day?
4. (a) The mean of two samples of sizes 50 and 100 respectively are 54.1 and 50.3
and the standard deviation are 8 and 7. Find combined mean and the
combined standard deviation of the two samples.
(b) Consider the following frequency distribution
Classes 0-10 10-20 20-30 30-40 40-50 50-60
Frequency 6 8 14 16 4 2
(i) Calculate the mean deviation from mean for the data.
(ii) Calculate the lower quartile
(iii) State which class contains the 70th percentile
5. (a) Let A and B be two sets such that n(A) = 3 and n(B) = 2. If (x, 1), (y, 2), (z, 3)
are in A×B. Find set A, B and A×B where x, y, z are distinct elements.
(b) Use algebraic laws of sets to simplify [(A − B) ∪ (A ∪ B)] ∩ [(A′ ∩ B)′ − B]
(c) A factory contains 45 men and 45 women. A survey of factory showed that
60 workers were machine operators, 42 were cleaners, 30 of the men were
operators, 30 of the men were cleaners, 24 of the men were both cleaners and
machine operators and 12 of the women were neither cleaners nor operators.
What is the ratio of women who are both cleaners and operators to the men
who are both cleaners and operators.
6. (a) (i) Draw the curves for f (x) = 3x and g(x) = log3 x on the same pair of axis
