Capstone Final Reflection
Capstone Final Reflection
1. In the process of completing your Capstone Project, what did you learn about your subject? What did
you learn about your skill set? What did you learn about yourself?
In the process of completing my capstone project I was able to learn more in depth on precalculus 11
and how some parts of the unit I didn’t remember much and how I needed to revise to be able to
teach the material effectively, as an example, I was unfamiliar and forgot how to complete the
square but by doing this project it forced myself to revise and re-learn it to be able to teach this
chapter of the course. I also learned how to create sales pages and how to create a product that
could make income, how to set up the website effectively so it is appealing and easy to navigate, and
how to sell a product in general. This project also helped me understand the significance of
connecting with others to create a project. I mean this in a way that I would have to research to fully
understand the demands of a customer for a product. I did this research by tutoring people one-to-
one, by doing this I was able to identify what students usually need help with and which ways of
teaching helps them the most. By doing this project I was able to learn more about myself as well,
the work habits and how I work best when doing a project this big. I learned that I study and finish
the work more effectively when I am at home compared to when I am at school. I think this is
because at school, I have many distractions including chatting with friends, and I think when I’m at
school I get more stimulated and cannot focus because of it. I also learned that I work best when I
have a list of things to do and do it all at once. It takes a long time and effort for me to get focused
and so when I get focused, I can finish lots of work. Having a list of things and going ahead of the
project helped me since I can finish many tasks in one sitting instead of doing it little by little.
2. How is your project relevant to you? How is it relevant to the school? How is it relevant to the
community?
This project is relevant to me because I am going into STEM and math is closely related to my field of
study and by doing this it helped me understand math creating and preparing me for university
further. This is relevant to the school because math is fundamental skill to have when going to high
school, being a prerequisite to graduate, I can confidently say that most of the people in this school
take precalculus 11 or its equivalent throughout their high school year. It is a course that many
people take and so by doing this it is helping the school community and the whole province since I
have created the course with the BC curriculum. Many people could benefit from the product I have
created.
5. What was a difficulty you encountered while researching your Capstone project? How were you able to
overcome those obstacles?
My main objective for the background research was to analyze and see how students work with
technologies and how I could create an online course effectively and usefully. There weren’t many
articles or research papers on this specific topic and so it was difficult to do, so I decided to do my
own research by tutoring students that are already taking the course and analyze what they struggle
the most with and also asking them to test out the website page receiving feedback on how I could
make it better. This process of tutoring students was difficult because I had to schedule
appointments as well as taking my own free time to do it. The biggest obstacle of researching
through tutoring was managing the time and I was able to overcome this by improving my
communication skills and communicating with the students and also working on scheduling
effectively by recording things on my calendar app.
6. What is the one thing you would have changed about your project if you could?
If I could change one thing about this project, I would change the way approached it, I had to change
my ideas a few times as well as improvising at times I was unsure with what to do. If I could re do
the project, I would still take the same idea of creating a product that would teach students taking
pre-calculus 11. But I would create a YouTube channel instead and just create videos instead of
making a whole course that students must enroll into. I think videos explaining how to solve certain
questions would be more beneficial than watching a shorter video, reading, and solving a few
questions on the quiz.
7. What advice would you offer to future Capstone students to help them with their Capstone journey?
If I could give advice to future Capstone students, I would say that managing your time and being
organized is crucial. There si a set time to finish your capstone and so it is important to be organized
and create a schedule for yourself or a to-do list to stay on track. Capstone is not the only thing you
are going to do in this class, and you need to complete all the assignments as well as the capstone to
become successful. Starting early is also a advice I would give, If you start early you would have time
to change a few things and don’t have to rush everything.
