Q1 Choose any two of the following hadith, and:

a) Briefly describe the main teachings of the hadith. [4]


b) Briefly explain the implementation of each hadith in a Muslim’s life. [4]

I. “No one eats better food than that which he eats out of the work of his hand.”
II. It was said: O Messenger of Allah, who is the most excellent of men? The Messenger of Allah ‫ﷺ‬
said: “The believer who strives hard in the way of Allah with his person and his property.
III. Allah does not look at your forms and your possessions, but He looks at your hearts and your
deeds.
IV. The world is the believer’s prison and the unbeliever’s paradise

2a) Outline the roles of the following in formulating Islamic law:


(i) The Prophet’s Hadiths (ii) Consensus (Ijma’) . [10]
(b): Some Muslim scholars have questioned the use of analogy (qiyas) in Islamic law. Why do you think
they have done so? [4]

3a) Outline the characteristics of the caliphates of all four Rightly Guided Caliphs which make them an
example of leadership for Muslim rulers. [10]
b)Three of the four Rightly Guided Caliphs were martyred for the decisions they made. Can Muslim leaders
today learn anything from this? Give reasons for your answer. [4]

4a) ‘Ali’s policy of changing the governors appointed by ‘Uthman led to a lot of problems for him. Outline:
(i) His reasons for making these changes; (ii) The effects of his policy. [10]
b)The Prophet called Abu Bakr ‘al-Siddiq’ (Testifier of the Truth). How did Abu Bakr live up to his title
during his caliphate? [4]

5a) Write about the method of performing the annual Hajj. [10]

b): Why in your opinion is it desirable that the pilgrims should visit Madina after performance of Hajj or
Umrah . [4]

5a): Write an account on following two articles of faith:

• Life after death and day of judgement [10]

b): How does belief in life after death affect the life of a Muslim. [4]
