Cloud Computing
Introduction

Cloud computing service therefore refers to the utilization of many different services that

are accessed through the Internet and also the hardware and software resources of computers

which are accessed through the Internet by using the people who use these services without

necessarily having any network or computation skill. The characteristics of cloud computing

involve self-service, network access, resource sharing, rapid elasticity, and measured service.

Cloud computing can be categorized into three main deployment models: IaaS, Cloud

Computing and Cloud Deployment.

Public Cloud

Public cloud is an architecture where an individual rents a physical infrastructure from

the service provider, and the same infrastructure may be used by several individuals, and the

rented physical structure is only accessible via the Internet. Public cloud services company that is

significant today are Amazon Web Service (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform

(GCP). Public clouds will be suitable for the SMEs because there will be no need of innovative

infrastructure or resources that may be consumed and that are applicable and have an increase of

capacity (Naved, (2022). For instance, Netflix is an AWS user who leverages the platform to

deliver its selections of videos and can increase the power of the system for more demand.

Private Cloud

Private cloud is an instance where the cloud is managed for a group of users or an

individual company. It can be a single application server or be deployed on managed appliances

from third party hardware vendors. Private clouds are more protected and do not have such an

open access; therefore, the companies that may benefit from the restrictions on the access are

banks or hospitals. An example is if a hospital requires keeping confidential personal data

obtained from patients and safeguarding it from health acts such as HIPAA.

Hybrid Cloud

Hybrid Cloud: It defines the case where the private cloud is used with a certain instance

of the use of the public cloud when it is possible to exchange data and applications between

them. Public cloud clouds are good for general tasks, and keeping sensitive data separate from

public cloud clouds is a useful feature (Hakak, (2022). One form of using the secluded and

public cloud is tragedy recovery, in which a company uses the internal cloud for everyday

processing while banking on the external cloud for disaster recovery. Cloud services can also be

characterized based on their service models, where the most common models used in cloud

computing are IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.

Infrastructure as Service (IaaS).

At the moment, IaaS already offers virtualized computing infrastructure over the Internet

through servers, storage, networks, and other facilities. It provides such a basic platform with

which any company can start developing its own applications (Alam, (2020). One of AWS'

flagship products is EC2, which is an elastic computing cloud service for cloud computing.

Platform as a service(PaaS)

Development tools could be defined as PaaS, which provides a platform that lets

developers create, launch, and host applications without using its core infrastructure. This model

consists of programming languages, DBMS, and other products used in the development stage.

Google App Engine is one of the leading cloud companies in the area of PaaS and offers a

platform for developers to develop and host applications within the Google infrastructure.

Software as a Service (SaaS)

Software as a Service (SaaS) bids subscription-based online software applications. These

programs can be opened by users via a web browser; no installation or upkeep of the software is

required. Examples are the productivity software package Microsoft Office 365 and the customer

relationship management (CRM) platform Salesforce. Among the benefits of cloud computing is

its cost-efficiency, which turns large capital expenditures on software and hardware into

operating expenses instead of requiring them. Only the usage is charged to users. Scalability is

the ability to adjust resources to meet demand, giving you the flexibility to manage changing

workloads.

Thirdly, cloud providers also ensure that maintenance and updates are taken care of so as

to allow the user to acquire fresh software and security patches on time. Cloud services can be

accessed from their websites using Internet from anywhere and do not have to be only in the

enterprise building to work. Despite the advantages of cloud computing, as mentioned above,

there are also concerns that have been identified in relation to its use. For example, storing

information in the cloud can jeopardize your privacy and safety even when you are careful when

using the cloud if the cloud service provider does not have adequate security. Reliance on

Internet Connectivity: Cloud services demand consistent internet connectivity, which will prove

difficult for people living in areas where the connection is spotty and weak.
5

Conclusion

Cloud computing offers a versatile and efficient approach to managing IT resources,

catering to diverse business needs through various deployment and service models. While it

provides significant benefits such as cost savings, scalability, and ease of access, it also presents

challenges related to security, control, and dependency on internet connectivity. Understanding

these aspects is crucial for organizations to effectively leverage cloud computing to enhance their

operations.
