Pythagoras
Pythagoras
INTRODUCTION
Pythagoras CAD + GIS is a modern CAD programme specially designed for topographical
applications integrating the calculation and drawing functions required for these tasks. It
provides solutions for Land surveying, Road surveying, City planning, Infrastructure,
Construction, Agriculture and Dredging. This software uses the newest techniques like,
intelligent snapping, indicating geometric relations and context sensitive input fields.
These techniques make the program very user friendly and even casual users can reach a high
degree of productivity.
In this practical session we were trained to use the software to produce a model from a
coordinate list, the following command is used in Pythagoras, File-> Import-> coordinate-
list-> Open (kumas.txt).
To make a model we have selected the option called Terrain Model from calculation tab by
selecting all the points in the map and we obtained the following model.
In this map we can change the initial and final contours, contour intervals from the option
Contour line from Calculation tab. We also can annotate the contours from tools tab by using
the Annotations-> Elevation option.
To get the properties of the contour lines we double clicked on the respective line, so that we can
change the style, colour of the line, the font size of the elevation annotation and etc.
To remove the boundary triangles the following path was followed, Calculations-> Remove
boundary triangles and a reasonable value was provided in the appeared dialog box.
After all the above steps the model looked like below,
In order to find the cut and fill volume of an area, first we drew a connected lines inside the map
by using the following options in the quick access tool bar.
- Point
- Line
After drawing that clicked the following option and again clicked on the line to make it a
polygon
- Polygon
.
We selected a series of points using the point option and connected those points using the path
option with holding the ctrl key to select the final point.
To get the cross section of the path the following command line was followed,
Here we have to put the reference elevation in the appeared dialog box.
Here we provided the width of the cross section as we desired in the appeared dialog box or else
we can use terrain limits as the width of the cross section.
3D View
Calculation -> 3D view -> Lines/ Grid provided the perspective view of the terrain model.
When we selected this command the cursor changed to a camera symbol. First, clicked in the
drawing on the viewpoint for the perspective. Then clicked for a second time on the drawing to
indicate the viewing direction.
We also can edit the number of grid lines in our 3D view. The following are the Grid and line
perspective view of the model respectively.
