MATATAG LESSON PLAN

Content Cellular reproduction
Content Standard Sexual reproduction is the basis of heredity
Learning Differentiate sexual from asexual reproduction in terms of:
Competency a) number of parents involved,
b) similarities of offspring to parents;
Learning Identify the number of parents involved in sexual and asexual reproduction
Objectives Classify organisms if it undergoes sexual or asexual reproduction in producing an offspring
Demonstrate the advantages and disadvantages of sexual and asexual reproduction

Procedures
A. Activating  Preliminary Activities
Prior Knowledge Prayer, Greetings, Physical Arrangement Check, Checking of Attendance, Setting of Classroom Rules
(Minds and  Review
Moods) What is fertilization?
 Motivation:
Let us have a game. I will divide you into two groups. I will show you a series of letters. Arrange them properly to find
the hidden word/words. Write your answer in a meta card.

GNIRPSFFO OFFSPRING

DLIHC CHILD
EZILITREF FERTILIZE

ECUDORPER REPRODUCE

Guide Question/s:
1. Did you observe any connections among each word? If yes, explain your answer briefly.

With the same group, I have here several pictures of different organisms. I want you to tell me the number of parents needed to
reproduce an offspring.

Starfish 1 parent

Gumamela 2 parents

Human 2 parents

Segmented worm 1 parent

Yeast cell 1 parent

Dogs 2 parents

B. Establishing Learners will be watching a short video presentation about the topic. Explain to the learners that the lesson is about sexual and asexual
Lesson Purpose reproduction in terms of parents involve and similarities to their parents. After watching the video, learners will be given an activity.
(Aims) The teacher will divide the class into two groups. Each group will be given some pictures and you will classify each picture if it is under
asexual reproduction or sexual reproduction and after that each group will have a representative to present their work.
Our activity will be called “Where do I belong?” Group 1 Group 2
This will be the rubrics:
Collaboration -3
Accuracy -2
Time bounded- 1
Presentation- 4
Total- 10
After 5 minutes, each group will present their work.

 Lesson Language Practice

The learners will answer the questions using the template of Defining Format for Clarity.
Questions Definition/Characteristic/Example
1.What is reproduction? Reproduction is when organisms produce or form new living things. It
occurs when plants and animals reproduce to make new individuals of
the same species.
2. How do organisms reproduce? Organisms reproduce either sexually or asexually

3. What are the two sex cells The two sex cells involve in sexual reproduction are sperm cell and egg
involve in sexual reproduction?? cell

C. Developing Reading the Key Idea/Stem

and Deepening The learners will be reading a passage about the difference of sexual from asexual reproduction in terms of: a) number of parents
Understanding involved, and b) similarities of offspring to parents;
(Tasks and  READ ME!
Taught)
Reproduction is when organisms produce or form new living things. It occurs when plants and animals reproduce to make new
individuals of the same species.
There are two kinds of reproduction. Asexual and Sexual Reproduction.
Asexual reproduction needs one parent to produce an offspring. Some examples of asexual reproduction are vegetative reproduction
from potatoes, budding from the yeast cells and fragmentation just like what happened to the segmented worm.
Offspring’s from asexual reproduction looks the same with the parent organism.
Sexual reproduction requires two parents- a male and a female- to reproduce. Examples of this process are pollination in plants and
internal fertilization in humans. Offspring’s from sexual reproduction gets traits from both parents.

 Developing Understanding of the Key Idea/Stem

The teacher will ask SOLO taxonomy questions pertaining to the reading context and the learner will give their answers.
1. What is reproduction?
2. What are the two types of reproduction?
3. What is the relationship between asexual and sexual reproduction?
4. Around the world, farmers are doing everything they can to prevent the coronavirus crisis becoming a hunger
crisis. During this time of pandemic, how important to farmers to use vegetative reproduction in order to
propagate a good variety of plants as their product to sustain their cost of living?

 Deepening Understanding of the Key Idea/Stem

 Group Activity
Learners will be given an activity. They will read and understand the information given by completing the table and filling out
the data given and answer the given guide questions.
Guide Questions:
1. What organisms in the table undergo the methods of asexual reproduction?
2. What organisms in the table undergo the methods of sexual reproduction?
3. What is the difference between sexual and asexual reproduction based on the number of individuals involved?
4. What is the difference between sexual and asexual reproduction based on the similarity of the offspring’s genetic
information with the parent/parents?

D. Making With the same group, Group 1 learners will construct a Venn diagram to compare the similarities and dissimilarities between asexual and
Generalizations sexual reproduction. Group 2 will make a two row Comparison Chart to compare and contrast the advantages and disadvantages of
(Abstraction) asexual and sexual reproduction.

Group 1- Venn Diagram

Group 2 - Comparison Chart
Sexual Asexual
Advantages
Disadvantages
E. Evaluating Written Work. The learners will be given a set of questions which will serve as formative assessment to evaluate their learning
Learning outcomes for the day’s lesson objectives and competencies.
(Test) Direction: Write AR if the sentence refers to Asexual Reproduction and SR for Sexual Reproduction.
___AR___1. Ginger and sweet potatoes can reproduce by planting their plant tubers in the soil.

___SR___2. The male organism produces sperm cell and the female organism produces an egg cell.

___AR___3. Lisa cut a worm into two pieces. She was shocked when she saw the two pieces move separately and independently.

____SR__4. Male elements of a flower releases pollen to a female element of a flower.

____AR__5. Sponges have smaller parts that can grow and become a different organism.

Teacher’s Remarks The teacher uses the Instructional Design Framework which is Discovery Learning wherein learners are scaffold through set of activities
(Annotations) and simple experimentation to understand the topic. The lesson is integrative, collaborative and explorative.
