Introductory Message
Welcome to STE Electronics 10!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the

Schools Division of Iloilo City and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas through
the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is developed to
guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents, and responsible adults) in helping the
learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to

guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the
contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in
acquiring lifelong learning skills, knowledge, and attitudes for productivity and
employment.

For learning facilitator:

The Electronics Activity Sheet will help you facilitate the teaching-learning
activities specified in each Most Essential Learning Competency (MELC) with minimal
or no face-to-face encounter between you and learner. This will be made available to
the learners with the references/links to ease the independent learning.

For the learner:

The Electronics Activity Sheet is developed to help you continue learning

even if you are not in school. This learning material provides you with meaningful and
engaging activities for independent learning. Being an active learner, carefully read
and understand the instructions then perform the activities and answer the
assessments. This will be returned to your facilitator on the agreed schedule.

Analog vs Digital Meters

I. Learning Competency
• Cite advantages of using analog over digital meters or vice – versa

II. Background Information for Learners

In experimentation, you always have a result, whether it is qualitative or
quantitative data. Establishing the validity of how accurate the result depends on
the precision of the instruments used. You need to choose the appropriate
instrument to be used to have your desired accurate data.
In electronics, there are meters use to get the desired information. In order
to measure the current, voltage, and resistance of a certain component or in a
circuit, one uses these kinds of meters. Analog and digital meters are widely used
to measure the current, resistance, and voltage.

III. Activity Proper.

Multimeters can be used to measure the different electronic components. It

can be used to get information about the current, voltage, or resistance. It can also
be used to know whether the component is working or not. There are two kinds of
multimeters available in the market. There are Analog multimeters which use
graduated scale and there are also Digital multimeters which use numbers to
provide its reading.

Figure 1: Analog Multimeters Figure 2: Digital Multimeters

The figures above show analog and digital multi meters. They are devices
that provide multiple application and also called as VOM (volt-ohm-milliammeter).

The table below shows comparison of digital and analog multimeters.

V. Answer Key

Handy to carry, all in one equipment

Easy to read the screen

expensive Reduce error values in reading

Needs battery to power up More accurate
Disadvantage (-) Advantage (+)
Digital Multimeter

impedance, frequency, oscillations

Cannot perform advance measurement like
it is dropped current
The needles that rotate might damaged when Accurate in detecting fluctuating electric
settings
Inaccurate readings due to improper range cheaper
Reading from the scale is confusing. No need of battery
Disadvantage (-) Advantage (+)
Analog Multimeter
