1.3 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
All organizations differ from its functions. But the basic activities may remain the same. So
an MBA student must understand the basic operations of the organization. Tactical knowledge, problem
solving skill, leadership quality, basic functions these all can be understand by the student from this type
of internship. An internship program is a grand opportunity for a MBA student because if this
opportunity were utilized well, he/she can develop the practical knowledge as well as the opportunity to
get placed in same organization in which the student is working if superiors impressed by his/her work.
If student not get placed in the organization even though he/she get maximum knowledge about
organization and operations performed by the departments. This will be a great asset to a student.
1.4 SOURCES OF DATA
Data is collected through both primary sources and secondary sources. The study is basedon
both the primary data and secondary data.
Primary data:
Primary data are those which are a fresh and for the first time and thus happen to be
original in character. Primary data were collected by the direct observation and direct interviews
with department head, management staff, workers etc.
Secondary data:
Secondary data are those which have already been collected by someone else and which
have been passed through the statistical process.

1.5 LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

• The time was limited for a deep study and analysis of the organization.

• The personal interviews may be affected by personal bias.

• As it is a government firm, certain data and documents are considered to be


confidential which are not available.

• The study is mainly based on qualitative data so there is possibility of errors and
accuracy of the information is in doubt.

• The personnel resources of the company limited it was a challenge to collect data
without interpreting normal operation of company.

About travel agency A travel agency is profitable organization which provides a to z transport
service to his customer during travel a place to another place. Sometimes it could arrange tour on
request of its client or customer

Independent travel agent:
The agents who work by own self for his agency is known as independent travel agent.
These agents are affiliate with host agency that helps independent business. As a result, they both
develop their skill, business planning and can earn revenue.

Online travel agent:


An OTA is known as online travel agency. Basically, the agency runs their business
through website. They can sell their Varity of products like as car rental, hotel booking, and flight
ticket selling excreta. Almost time online travel agency has some terms and condition that need to
fulfill by customer. Example: room rent none refundable.

Inbound tour agent:
The operator who generally make tour plan for local area or inside of a country term as
a inbound tour agent. Example: if a tour operator only provides services in Bangladesh is called
inbound tour agent.

Outbound tour agent:


When an agency provides services in outside of his own country that’s known as an
outbound tour agency. Example: suppose Dried Star tour and travels giving accommodation
facility in India it can be term as outbound tourism.

Commission tour agent:


There is also some agency that is actually worked as a third party between Main
Agency and customer. They take customer order plan and refer to a host customer instead of
some profit. They called commission tour agent. Example: When I got an international ticketing,
I took the order and refer to it on Biman holidays instead that I got total 4% commission

History of the travel agency:
Thomas Cook is the man who first time established the world first travel agency by his
name on November in 1841. In 1877 Brownell travels take the first 10 guest to Switzerland on
archeological tour. During the world war2 began, it ensures the industry would take a big hit.
During that time people weren’t thinking a holiday, and the industry took a big dive. After
the world war2 peoples were wanted refreshment and started travel gradually and after few times
more agencies grown up and noticed by people. They offered a affordable packages to people with
good quality holidays. British were searching sunny beaches and hot destination and this become
vastly popular and profitable business industry in United Kingdom.

Study Methodology:
For the preparation of my internship report on “Managing a Travel Agency: An Analysis on
the Dried Star Tours and Travels” I followed some strategies for collecting data:

Primary data:
1. I gathered greatest data from my own understanding.

2. I talked with some frequent Customers, oldest agencies and some experts whose are belonging in
these industries from long time.
3. I collected some data by up close and personal exchange with the specialist.
4. I talked with my 2 friends; they have already established travel agency in city’s they provides me
starts to finish level data.

The My Choice Tourism Pvt Ltd has separated and department duties for each department.
Departments are based on functioning basis. Each department specializes in its own area of
operation and the various function of the organization is carried out through various department.
The process of assigning various tasks or activities in the different segment on a horizontal basis is
called departmentalization. Its helps for proper administration of the company.

The HR department is the process of discovering potential applicants for permanent

Time office maintain and check the attendance card daily to see that workers are properly
punched on time office. If they punched, it means they reported for work.

COLLECTING EMPLOYEE’S PERSONAL DOCUMENTS


Time office as an integrated part of the HR department and carries the responsibility of
collection of employees personal documents etc.,

SENDING ABSENTEES REPORT FORMS


Time office sent absent report regularly to the AGM (HR) so that he can take appropriate
action on the habitual absentees.

LEAVE AND HOLIDAYS

Time office is invariably required for maintaining all leave records of workers in the
company.

ACCIDENT DETAILS

In case of any accidents time office should report to HR department and other respective
department.

3.2 FINANCE DEPARTMENT
Finance is required to bring a business into existence, to keep it alive and to see it growing.
The management of finance is essential for the success of business. Finance is regarded as the life
blood of a business enterprise. This is because in the modern money-oriented economy, finance is
one of the basic foundations of all kinds of economic activities. It has been rightly said that
business needs more money to make more money.

Finance manager is the head of Finance Department. He looks after the budget, finance,
posting and audits of accounts. The senior officer accounts take charge to look into the day-to-day
activities of financial of the company. The senior officer establishment deals with calculating
employee wages provide, provident fund, ESI etc. Finance department do not maintain separate
balance sheet and profit & loss account. The accounting details are sent to the head office and they
are preparing the financial annual reports for every year. There are 6 employees in this department.

There are 2 sections in this department. They are as follows

BILL SECTION

This section is handled permanent employees’ salary, provident fund, medical bills,
travelling bills and it also pays to the extra expenses like co-operative store, schools, canteen
etc.

COST SECTION

This section maintains all the bills related to the production expenses. It also
prepares cost sheet on a monthly basis which is verified by the financial head of the unit and
send to head office for future verifications.

INCOME TAX:
This section is an unavoidable aspect of a company. This section calculates the
income tax to be paid by every employee of the company this done depending up on the tax
rates and this is reduced from the salary of an individual.

Basically, Airlines and their Tickets are our main product at present. We are trying to increase
our products and soon in future there will be hopefully more product of us.
Price:
This is a big matter to all customers so why we are providing low and cheap price tickets to all
for affordable journey.
Place:
Place always impacts on business. So, from that side we are in center of city and this is a great
advantage of us. Every day total 14 flight take-off and landing in Saidpur, so it’s helping to grown up us.

Promotion:
The big weapon is that how easy way we implement our promotion tactics to achieve our
business target. We are using most popular and affordable promotional tool to expand our business.
Hotel reservation
Being a unique travel house in Bangladesh, MCT boasts a wide variety and an abundance of
accommodations both locally and internationally. Not only it can find over 4000 Hotels in over 100
cities around the world but also the pleasure of most competitive rates that are quite modest when
compared with hotels of the same standards.

provide best possible travel consultancy what is ‐ until recently was unknown to the trade.

arranged by MCT, a unique travel house in Bangladesh. From this they also give consultancy services.

3.6Processing Department:
The promotional strategies of MCT are reviewed each year in consultation with their advertising agents

and media buyers. On their recommendations a themed campaign is devised and appropriate media

selected. There is a limited budget available for such campaigns, and since television advertising is not

usually possible within their budget, in past years the choice has been to use the following media:

• Poster advertising

• Press advertisements

• Smaller posters for distribution

• Their own web site.

Below-the-line

Secondary promotional activity is administered by their own marketing people and website. This

involves:

• Distributing printed leaflets and posters to tourist offices, libraries, language schools, hotels, coach

operators, museums and galleries in different areas in Dhaka.

• A selection of NMM leaflets, 1998-2000 Direct mail used extensively to encourage group visits to the

travel trade bookings

• Discount vouchers for joint promotion with other tourist attractions, tour companies, hotel groups and

on consumer on-pack and magazine promotions

• Paid advertising in trade journals and some local papers announcing special deals and featured events

• Exhibition stands at trade shows for group organisers and travel operators

Press

Basically, MCT give advertisement about their service through newspaper which also covers these

areas:

• Keeps national and international media informed of all developments at the Museum sites

• Responds to media requests

• Develops new media contacts by special invitation, press launches and hospitality. They also work in

association with the press departments of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC) and the national and

regional tourist boards to host incoming foreigners as well

different sector, which gives the organization a proper professional image.

➢ They have only two department financial department and marketing department.

➢ They have lots of clients but some managerial problem they have the tendency to lose
them

➢ No employee training and development centre

➢ Comparatively low investment in increasing different operations.

3. Opportunities

➢ MCT has a scope of expansion their business in chittagong and cox’s Bazar, as it has
become the tourist hub in Bangladesh

➢ As this company is very much successful in tours and travels, it can easily joint venture
with other local or international travel company to give better services.

➢ The government of Bangladesh is giving immense support on developing tourism sector
and offers various packages, loans, investment on this sector. So Ananash has an
opportunity to grab it.

4. Threats:

➢ The unstable situation of Bangladesh that greatly harm the tourism sector.
➢ Sometimes less interest of foreigner to come in Bangladesh Now-a-days many companies
are doing good business in tourism sectors in Bangladesh

MCT does not have a separate department of human resource management.


So it hampers the proper way of selection process. Moreover, company management thinks
it as a big expense to establish it. Their upcoming sector is training and development of the
lem it become delay. They need to concentrate on more h up the customer. employee but

5.1 SUGGESTIONS AND CONCLUSION SUGGESTIONS:

• Employee turnover should be minimized

• Performance appraisal system should be improved


• Advertisement and promotional activities should be improved
• Considerable care must be taken by the government to make the company run in a profitable manner
• The infrastructure and the facilities given to the employees should be improve
• Better training for improving the skills of the workers and the officers provided by the company
• Marketing department should add more efforts
• Experienced professionals should be appointed in research and development team

• Improve the motivational technique


• More concentration on product diversification is needed
• Introduction of innovative products is needed for the company
• Infrastructure should be established with some reputed organization

5.2 CONCLUSION:

The recruitment process is both long and costly, and when a mistake is made it
can be catastrophic for the organization and the individual involved. Furthermore,
the process is complex and offers as many opportunities for making a bad decision
as a good one. So, effective recruitment and selection needed. Effective recruitment

and selection is critical to company success in the future. Employing the right person,
in the right job and the right time will save managers endless hours. We think the
proposed system makes the recruitment and selection process more effective
for the organization.
