SECTION 3
Fees Information
• Indicative fee means the estimated fee based on the typical study pattern in this course e.g. 24 credit points per year on a full-
time study load
• The indicative Annual Tuition Fees and Student Services Amenities Fee (SSAF) quoted on the offer letter is an estimate of the
fees based on your enrolment contained in this letter and may increase annually
• If you are commencing a CRICOS-registered course with a duration of 26 weeks or more, the 'Tuition Fee Deposit' is 50% of
the Indicative Annual Tuition Fee for the first year. You may elect to pay more than the 50% provided. If the Course Standard
Duration is 25 weeks or less, then the 'Tuition Fee Deposit' is the full amount
• An invoice will be generated once you have selected and enrolled in your chosen units. If there is a difference between the
actual tuition fee and the indicative tuition fee already paid, you will be required to pay the difference if greater, or you may
choose to be refunded the difference if less. Where money is owed, this fee is due on the first day of the study period or after the
first week of the study period
• Details of the actual tuition fees due each semester based on your subject selection can be calculated using the Tuition Fee
Calculator
Attachment A – OSHC, Fees and Refund
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
• It is an Australian Government requirement that all Student Visa holders possess OSHC for the duration of their student visa.
Allianz Global Assistance (AGA) OSHC is Murdoch University’s preferred provider. Please go to the following link for a list of
other acceptable OSHC providers.
• Students who purchase an AGA OSHC policy through Murdoch University will receive exclusive access to the Sonder Essentials
service as an added bonus, at no extra cost. Sonder is a 24/7 off-campus, multilingual safety and wellbeing support service
that provides help to eligible students through a mobile application, over the phone or in-person. Visit the International student
safety website for more information.
• Students who depart Australia earlier than their visa end date can seek a refund of overpaid OSHC fees from their OSHC
provider.
Fees
• Once you have completed your first semester of studies at the University, you will be considered a continuing international
student. As a continuing student, the actual tuition fees that you will pay in each teaching period will depend on the number of
units and the field of education of the material covered in each of the units that you select in each teaching period. Details of the
actual tuition fees for each unit in your course can be calculated by using the online Tuition Fee Calculator.
• As an international student, it is a condition of your student visa that in each teaching period, you enrol in a standard number of
units that will allow you to complete your course in the Standard Duration mentioned in this offer letter. The Standard Duration
at Murdoch University is based on students successfully completing a standard unit enrolment of at least 12 credit points
per semester or 24 credit points per year. Students with enrolments that vary from the standard course structure will pay an
adjusted fee (pro-rata). You should refer to the University Online Handbook for the total number of points for this course.
• If you change course, you will pay the fees for the new course in the teaching period you commence that course.
• You may receive more than one invoice per study period depending on the spread of your units across each study period. Study
periods in Study Abroad, undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs may contain a number of teaching
periods and actual teaching weeks are likely to be less than 17 weeks. Please refer to our website for the detailed teaching
period information.
• Please note that some courses also have course material fees. For a full list of non-tuition fees that you may incur during your
studies at Murdoch, please refer to the Fee Rules and the associated Fee Schedules.
Refund process
• You may be eligible for a refund for international tuition fees paid, in certain circumstances. All applications for refund must be
made using the Refund Request Form and emailed to the Student Centre.
• Upon receiving a completed application, the Fees officer will process the refund request and determine the difference between
the fee liability and the amount actually paid, subject to the terms reflected in the Fee Rules
• The outcome of the refund assessment will be communicated to you via email. Further details can be found in the Refund
Request Form.
• Refunds are made in Australian dollars unless requested otherwise and will only be made if the University has already received
the cleared monies into its bank accounts.
• Please note, refunds can only be deposited into an account in the student’s name. Payments to a third party will not be
processed.
• If you are a recipient of a scholarship or financial aid, you should seek advice from your lending institution regarding any
additional policy that may apply in the event of you requesting a refund.
Attachment B - Complaints and Appeals
This attachment contains information on the complaint and appeal process at Murdoch University. When an administrative decision is
made by the University, the decision letter will generally outline the appeal process suitable for that specific decision, otherwise you
may make a complaint.
In first instance, you should contact the person who made the decision and make complaint to them about your decision. If you are
unhappy with the outcome of the operational area, you can utilise the University’s internal complaint mechanism through writing to
the University Secretary or via the complaints form on the University website. The University Secretary’s contact details can be found
in Attachment C. Some complaints must be made within specified time limits, usually 20 working days. It is important to read any
decision letters carefully for specific deadline information to make a complaint.
WA Ombudsman
At any stage, you may make a complaint about the University’s actions to the Western Australian Ombudsman. The Ombudsman
investigates complaints about Western Australian public authorities including: State Government departments, agencies and boards;
government services such as hospitals, prisons, schools and technical colleges; public universities and; local governments.
If you have made a complaint the Ombudsman will usually request that you try to resolve it first with the University utilising its internal
complaint service. If you complain to the Ombudsman, it is important that you let the University know of this action as it may be able
to delay any actions until after the matter has been resolved to the WA Ombudman’s satisfaction.
Once you become a student of Murdoch University, the Murdoch Guild can provide services to help you make a complaint or an
appeal through their Student Assist service and will provide advice on other services that you may access and may, with your
permission, make representations on your behalf and support you in any discussions.
