UNIT 1. THE TECHNOLOGICAL


PROCESS

1. What is t e c h n o l o g y ?
Technology is the practical application of knowledge (science) and skills
(techniques) to create solutions (technological objects or systems) which satisfy our
needs or solve our problems.

We use technology to make all the objects around us:

➢ Food: farm, to keep more time products


➢ Clothes
➢ house: to build or to protect the cold or hot
➢ Transport. Cars, planes, trains
➢ Medicine.
➢ Energy: we need to produce electrical energy
➢ Leisure time: mobile, apps…
➢ Communications
All is technology
➢

2. How do we make technological objects?


We use technological process. This process is the work method used by technology
and consists of the ordered sequence of steps that must be followed in order to meet
a need or solve a problem.

3. The evolution of technical objects


When you have to solve a technology problem, we can use other objects which previously has
been designed. In some cases to improve this previous design or because we need to adapt some
object for our own use, or perhaps it is old-fashioned and it have to evolve.

1. Make a list with technological objects that you use while you are in class.

4. Give two examples of technological objects that are used to satisfy:


a) crossing a river
b) sticking several paper sheds
c) cleaning the floor
d) protecting your feet when you walk

Look at the photographs and answer these questions:


a) Why do we need these objects?
b) What did we use in the past (before these objects existed) for the same needs?

Example: We need a camera to have pictures of people and places. In the past
people painted pictures.
