2 Parts of a
Computer
Dear teacher,
Does a computer Yes students!
have different A computer has
parts? different parts and
we will learn about
them with their
uses and features.

Dear children,
As all the machines have different parts, a computer also has many parts. A
computer system is shown here with its basic parts like CPU Box, Monitor,
Keyboard, Mouse and Speakers.

Monitor
CPU Box

Speakers
Mouse
Keyboard

Let us learn about some of its parts. All the parts of a computer work
together to perform a task.

12
Monitor
 A monitor looks like a television (TV).
 It shows us the work done on a computer.

 We can watch movies and

cartoons like Doraemon, Little
Krishna, etc. on it.

Keyboard
 It is like a typewriter.
 It consists of small buttons,
called keys.
 It helps us to type words and
numbers (by pressing the keys).

 It is used for pointing and choosing
pictures/icons.

Note
Pressing the mouse button is called clicking.

When we move the mouse with our hand, a pointer on the monitor also
moves in the same direction. You can also play games using a mouse.

13
C.P.U.
 C.P.U. stands for Central Processing Unit.

 It is also called the brain of a computer.

 It helps the computer to think and work.

The CPU is located inside the CPU box.

This is the CPU box.

This is the CPU.
(System Unit).

Speakers
 Speakers are used to listen to music or
any sound played on the computer.
 They usually come in pairs.

Do You Know ?
Bluetooth speakers are wireless (they do not have wires).

Headphones
 Headphones are used to listen to the music or

listen to the music on the headphones with low
volume otherwise it will damage our eardrums.

Joystick
 A joystick is used to play games on a computer.

 We can control the pointer (player) on the monitor

using this.

14
Printer
 Printer helps us to print the work done on the
