Q2.What are the principal differences between oral and written reports? What do these differences mean
in terms of how you would need to adapt a written report for presenting to an audience? 5

Ans- - Report plays a very important role in interpreting and presenting the information to our
audiences. However, there are many differences between oral and written reports. In the oral
report, the voice plays a crucial role, whereas, in a written report, the paragraphs are very
important, also known as Visual and Verbal Cues. In the written report, the writer might consider
emphasizing the cues like different heading and paragraphs.

In terms of the reader's control, the pace of communication can be controlled. It varies in both
terms. In the oral report, speakers control it, for which it is preferable that the most skillful
member of the team with speaking skills should pitch the oral report. In contrast, the readers in
the report control the pace.

The level of formality should be high in a written report as no immediate feedback is possible.
So it is important that the words we use are clear. Whereas the level of formality is moderate in
the oral report also immediate feedback is possible as mostly a question-answer section is held at
the end of the oral report.

Even without the principal differences, there are some small differences as well. Written reports
can be referred back, which might act as references in the future.

Q3. Explain the importance of cross-cultural communication.

ANS-

In today's world, globalization plays a very important role, and in this world of specialization,
trade between boundaries has increased a lot. We make what we are specialized in and import
what others are specialized in order to get the best value. Also, we often perform the operation in
areas that will give us competitive advantages example, apple manufactures their product in
china because of location economics of scale. So in order to perform this operation and smooth
running of the factory without errors, cross-cultural communications play a very important role.
If we do not understand the worker's norms and believe we will not be able to value it and
understand it, which might lead to a misunderstanding resulting in worker demotivation and a
fall in the level of production. So by understanding cross-culture, we can motivate the employs
and help improve productivity.

So we can say that cross-culture communication plays a very important role in most businesses
which operate on an international scale and it should be taken seriously and should not be
ignored and it can heavily damage the reputation of the Company.
Q1. You submitted your resume at an MNC last month, after your graduation. It went well and they
called you for an interview. How would you prepare such a resume? Explain with an example.

Ans- I'll begin by logically organizing my educational information. This will contain information on my
school, dates, degrees, and major field. Then I'll tell them about my previous jobs. After that, I'll add my
personal information and talents. Then I'll put my name and contact information at the top, followed by
subheadings like objective, education, employment, extracurricular activities, and so on. The data will
next be organized for the highest visual appeal and a formal appearance. I'll categorize the information
into groups based on education, experience, and skills, for example. I'll create the headlines for each
group and give contact information so they can get in touch with me.

Q6. What are the prevailing attitudes in our culture toward the following 5 societal issues (on the next
page), and how can those attitudes affect our communication with non-natives? Discuss. 5

a. Negotiation methods

b. Truth in advertising

c. Company–worker loyalty

d. Women’s appropriate roles in society

e. The Protestant work ethic

Ans- In our culture (South East Asia ), we negotiate very hard. We often don't believe that the price they
are asking is the real selling price. So we mostly offer half the asking price, whereas in the western world
and many other counties, this doesn't exist. The asking price is the selling price. For which it gets very
hard for non-natives to understand the real value and finds it hard to evaluate a product with its real value.

In our countries we often promise a lot of information in our advertising

, but often, we are not aware of the promise . To make the product more attractive to consumers, we often
choose unethical paths. When we make such promises with foreign buyers, they expect all of them to
happen, which often creates confusion because in our country, it's normal to promote in a way to makes it
attractive.

Company–worker loyalty- As Bangladesh is a developing country and most people have moderate
incomes, the level of work loyalty is low as the money (The salary ) is given the top priority to most of
the people as they believe can lead to a better life. Whereas since in western world they have more
security ( Pension or unemployment benefits) so they can show more loyalty to business such as even
after getting better work offer they might not leave. A foreign buyer in the garments industry might get
shocked after seeing a frequent change of jobs among employees, which is normal in our country.

Women's appropriate roles in society- In our country, women's empowerment is low, and we have
conservative culture, and we believe in male dominated society. Where males can perform several works
which females cant perform (Taboo) . Which is changing slowly. It might be surprising and
uncomfortable for foreign female buyers when they go to visit the rural sights when they see our countries
women.

The Protestant work ethic- In our culture, work ethic protection is very low. We mostly try to save costs
and increase efficiency even after hampering society. Such as in a garment factory, after dyeing, the
harmful chemicals are dumped in rivers which saves the cost of purifying, and the companies don't mind
doing that, which is very unethical for foreign buying as most of them prefer sustainable, eco-friendly
business. So the work ethic is strongly maintained in the western world.
