Precautions in Use
When using this equipment, please observe the following precautions for the safety of
the operator and patient.
In order to ensure safety when using the system, read the operation
manual provided with each system component for details on usage and
relevant precautions.
Secure the means for the operator and the patient to communicate with
each other.
If equipment usage is deemed to put the patient at risk due to his or her
condition, refrain from conducting the study or treatment.
Do NOT use a power supply other than the single phase AC100 V,
0.2 kVA, 50/60 Hz and the single phase AC200/220/230/240 V, 1.0 kVA, 50/
60 Hz.
Using a power supply other than the one specified above may cause serious
accidents such as fires, smoke emissions or explosions.
Always be very careful when moving the equipment to avoid contact with
the patient or operator and to ensure that the patient or operator does not
become caught between the equipment and any neighboring devices.
Otherwise, it may cause injury.
Always be very careful when moving the X-ray radiography stand and X-
ray radiography table to ensure that the patient does not become caught
between these devices and this equipment.
Otherwise, it may cause injury.
If the message "Alert: Wire. Stop unit and call service representative" is
displayed on the operation touch panel, stop using the equipment and
contact your Shimadzu service representative.
• The equipment is suspended by two wire ropes. If either of these ropes break,
radiography is disabled.
• A buzzer sounds continuously when the warning message is displayed on the
operation touch panel. Any continued use of the equipment while this message
is displayed may result in serious injury to the patient or operator.
Cautions on Radiography
Restrict all persons other than the patient from accessing the equipment
in accordance with local regulations.
To avoid unnecessary exposure, acceptable distances (maximum access
values) to the equipment by any person other than the patient are defined for
each region.
Always check the X-ray exposure region using the collimator lamp.
Irradiating a patient with X-rays outside the required region risks exposure of
the patient to unnecessary radiation.
During X-ray irradiation, ensure that the X-rays irradiate the necessary
region only.
To avoid unnecessary exposure, narrow down the collimator and take
protection measures, such as wearing a protective apron.
Do NOT place any unnecessary object in the location within the X-ray
exposure region.
Doing so may result in unnecessary radiation exposure to the patient.
In order to minimize the radiation dose on the patient, make the distance
between the focus and the patient's body surface as long as possible
(Minimum 45 cm).
The shorter the distance becomes, the greater the amount of scatter dose
absorbed into the patient, which may cause a radiation hazard.
Pay extra attention when irradiating X-rays for a long time or repeatedly.
It may cause a radiation hazard.
Be sure to clean the equipment frequently and after each patient use.
While doing so, do NOT directly apply or spray any disinfectant, cleaner, or
water onto the equipment. Wipe down all contact surfaces using a cloth
moistened with an appropriate disinfectant or cleaner. Make sure the cloth is
NOT too wet. If it is, liquid may enter into system electronics, causing failure or
malfunction.
When cleaning resin parts such as reticule of the collimator, use cloth
lightly moistened, not soaked, with cold or warm water mixed with
neutral detergent that does not include organic solvent.
Rubbing alcohol, organic solvents or non-neutral detergents may lead to
deformation or crack of resin parts such as reticule of the collimator. Wipe
them off immediately if they adhere to the reticule of the collimator.
On completing the work, check the following points before switching the power ON
again.
When turning the power ON after cleaning, make sure the examination
room is properly ventilated.
Turning the power ON while any flammable gas remains in the examination
room could lead to fire, smoke, explosion or electrocution.

PBL
This is displayed when all of the stipulated conditions (see the table below), such as the
alignment of the positions of the X-ray tube and the radiography device (Bucky), are
satisfied.

Does the center of the X-ray tube coincide with the center of
the detection surface in the Bucky (longitudinal, transversal,
X-ray radiography stand or vertical)?
(Vertical front)
Is cassette equipped? (Correct size?)
On changing the radiography distance (SID) within the stipulated radiography distance
range when the conditions stated above are satisfied, the collimator automatically
adjusts the area of the irradiation field to match the cassette size.
Further, by operating the collimator while the cassette size is the maximum, the
irradiation field can be narrowed down to sizes smaller than that cassette size (in this
case too, [PBL] is displayed). Once the irradiation field has been narrowed down, if the
cassette size is then changed, for example by changing the cassette, the irradiation
field automatically adjusts to the newly selected cassette size.

For details on how to insert cassettes, refer to the operation manual for the
X-ray radiography table.
When inserting the grid into the Bucky, be sure to confirm the grid type
or the status of insertion. In case that the grid is incorrectly inserted, or
the status of insertion or grid type differ from radiography condition,
appropriate radiography images may not be acquired.
In case of that the cassette and the grid are not inserted correctly, [Not Ready]
on the touch panel of X-ray tube support is displayed. Be sure to lock the
cassette and the grid correctly.
11Adjust the irradiation field with the collimator while pressing the

When the X-ray tube unit is directly opposing the Bucky, [PBL] will be displayed
on touch panel, and X-ray radiography is possible.
4
Even when rotating the X-ray tube around vertical axis for each 90, the
[PBL] will be indicated on the touch panel and you can perform
radiography. Verify that the X-ray tube is facing to the proper direction, 4
and perform radiography.
4
When the X-ray tube unit and Bucky are not in direct opposition,
[Automatic]* is displayed on the touch panel.
When [Automatic] is displayed, the operator must have responsibility in
4
carrying out irradiation field adjustment and performing X-ray
radiography.
*For the specification of the products to the United States, [Manual], instead of
[Automatic], is displayed in the setting. 4
In arrangement of the X-ray radiography table and X-ray radiography stand as shown
in a figure, the system is not discriminating the direction center position of transversal
(A) of X-ray radiography table, and the center position (B) of X-ray radiography stand.
Therefore, X-ray radiography is possible for the X-ray tube unit to the X-ray
radiography stand also in the position of (A). Moreover, perform X-ray radiography after
setting an X-ray tube unit by the correct position in performing X-ray radiography, since
X-ray radiography can do the X-ray tube unit to the X-ray radiography table also in the
position of (B).

After tracking the X-ray tube support and X-ray radiography stand, operate the 4
following procedures for oblique projection radiography.
1 Adjusting the height of X-ray tube unit, tilt the equipment with
4
rotating a little for upper or lower direction.
6
The X-ray tube support can be set to move vertically even if it is tilted.
The angles to which the X-ray tube support can be tilted include 20, 40and 4
60.
When the X-ray tube support is set to move vertically while tilted, and also
under that setting, the exposure filed is coincided with the position of the
Bucky, the [Obliq] is displayed on the upper right of the touch panel.
4
4
In vertical oblique projection, Bucky tracking operates with an error of 3 cm
(Radiography distance = 100 cm).
In case the distance is over 100 cm, the error increases by 3 cm or more.
The tracking radiography can be performed while the Bucky of the X-ray radiography
stand is tilted.
The operation procedures other than the tilting operation are same as those operation
not in use tilting.
For details on operation not using tilting, refer to "4.6.1 Vertical Tracking
Radiography (Not using tilt function)".
Except the determined angle (-20, 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90), is
displayed and also, the ( ) button is displayed for information.
4
When the LED lights by pressing the (manual operation) button at the
collimator, the present display such as [TILT15] disappears and [PBL Override]
appears.
4
2 Aim the X-ray tube support at Bucky of X-ray radiography stand, and
4
adjust the SID.
6
The SID indication on touch panel changes and the exposure field tracks that
change.
4
The Source-to-Image Distance (SID) with the Bucky tilted shows the distance
4
to the point of intersection of the extended line of X-ray detector surface and
the X-ray radiation line.
Bucky
Bucky
X-ray detector surface
Even where the Bucky is tilted at 90 and is turned upward, select the vertical
radiography technique.
4
With a tilt type X-ray radiography stand, vertical tracking is available even with
the Bucky inclined by the setting at installation. The angle range of the X-ray
tube for this vertical tracking is 20, 40 and 60 against the Bucky.
Also, Vertical tracking operation is not available on the following states: 4
• Rotating the X-ray tube in a direction that is around horizontal axis, it does
not face to the X-ray radiography stand.
With the tilting angle of Bucky 90 (with [TILT90] displayed in the right upper 6
part of touch panel), X-ray tube moves relatively so that SID becomes the
predetermined value.
The SID can be set between 90 cm and 150 cm at installation (the same
distance at the horizontal tracking radiography). 4
4
When operating vertical tracking with tilting Bucky and X-ray detector surface
is at right angle to X-ray tube, the allowance will be 2 % of radiography
distance as shown below.
The explanation given here assumes that the horizontal Bucky technique has been
selected.
2 Check whether the X-ray radiography table's Bucky and the X-ray
tube focus are directly opposing each other.
If the radiography distance (SID) of X-ray tube unit turns to preset distance 4
(1m) during the tabletop rises, then it will track maintaining the preset distance.
At the time of tabletop descent, the X-ray tube unit descends without
descending.
The radiography distance can be preset within the range between 90 cm and
150 cm at the time of installation.

(Examples: "SID120 cm", "STD120 cm")
• If the SID indication on the touch panel is set to display in inches, input "in"
instead of "cm".
• The radiography distance can be set within the range 90 cm to 170 cm (36
inches to 68 inches).
If no radiography distance information has been input in the radiography step
comment field, or it has not been input correctly, the radiography distance set at
installation is set.
Depending on the ceiling height or the height of the radiography table the X-ray
tube support may reach its upper limit in the vertical direction, meaning that
motion to the position at the input radiography distance is not possible.
Set a radiography distance that is within the possible range of motion.
The X-ray tube unit tracks at the radiography distance displayed as a comment for
the radiography step.
When the X-ray tube unit is used in combination with a radiography table that
can be raised and lowered, when the tabletop is raised, once the radiography
distance of the X-ray tube unit has reached the radiography distance displayed
as a comment for the radiography step, this radiography distance is maintained
in tracking beyond that point.
When the tabletop is lowered, the X-ray tube unit is not lowered and only the
tabletop moves.

In general, position data is registered during equipment installation. Position data can
also be registered after installation.
Note that when the long view radiography function (option) is used, for example, the auto
positioning function can be used regardless of whether or not a hand grip or patient stand
is fitted. 4
There are registration- and movement-related restrictions on the area depending on the
position of the X-ray radiography stand and whether or not a hand grip or patient stand is
fitted.
6
For details on the limitation of the area, refer to "5.4 The Area Where Cannot
Be Registered with Auto Positioning Function".
4.9.1 Configuration
The system consists of the X-ray tube support, remote control, and X-ray high-voltage

6
1. Check for cuts or twists in the cables.
6
Observe the following precautions when cleaning and disinfecting the
touch panel:
• Turn the equipment power OFF before cleaning and disinfecting.
6
• Clean and disinfect the touch panel periodically.
• Wipe the surface of the equipment with a cloth moistened with disinfectants or
cleaner. If liquid gets inside the equipment, it can cause failure or accidents.
• Do NOT rub or hit the panel surface because it tends to scar easily.
6
• Wipe gently with moistened soft close to remove the dust from the panel
surface.
6
6
Use the following disinfectants and cleaner:
6
• Chlorine disinfectants
Sodium dichloroisocyanurate solution (1 % maximum)
Sodium hypochlorite solution (1 % maximum)
• Alcohol disinfectants
Commercially available isopropyl alcohol solution (Up to 99 wt% can be used)
Rubbing alcohol (76.9 - 81.4 vol% Ethanol, Isopropyl alcohol as an additive) 6
• Glass cleaner (Only onto the touch panel)
6
When cleaning resin parts such as reticule of the collimator, use cloth
lightly moistened, not soaked, with cold or warm water mixed with
neutral detergent that does not include organic solvent.
6
Rubbing alcohol, organic solvents or non-neutral detergents may lead to
deformation or crack of resin parts such as reticule of the collimator. Wipe
them off immediately if they adhere to the reticule of the collimator. 6
On completing the work, check the following points before switching the power ON
again.
6
When turning the power ON after cleaning, make sure the examination
room is properly ventilated.
Turning the power ON while any flammable gas remains in the examination
room could lead to fire, smoke, explosion or electrocution.

*1: The replacement period of the main wire rope differs depending on the frequency
of use. The main wire rope must be replaced every 5 years when the frequency of
use is under 260 days per year or 50 patient studies per day. Replacement may be 6
required in less than 5 years depending on the environment and conditions of use.
*2: In case the equipment is not used for 1 year or more contact your Shimadzu
service representative and make them remove the battery.
6
If the proper maintenance has not been scheduled, the wire cable will wear
with use quickly, and be broken in some cases. In the case where the wire
cables were broken concurrently, it is concerned that severe incident may
occur. It is recommended that an engineer properly trained by the official
Shimadzu Group maintain the system.
• Even if the above alert is displayed, but no damage to the wire cables is
observed as a result of the inspection, continue use of the system is
possible, but 6month inspection is highly recommended.
When the wire rope reaches the replacement time, a pop-up window will
appear and display a message. The message will be repeatedly displayed until
the wire ropes are replaced.
Prepare some locking mechanism to keep a off status of Molded Case Circuit Breaker.
When replacing the part, service engineer isolates from the supply mains.
IEC60601-1-2:2007/2014
Group 1, Class A
The system uses radio-frequency energy only for its internal function and is not
intended to deliver energy to the patient. But little leakage radio-frequency energy does
harm to highsensitive equipment.
The system main power line in the clinical site should be connected to the domestic
power sources which are separated from the public main network.
7
The emissions characteristics of the system make it suitable for use in
industrial areas and hospitals (CISPR 11 class A).
If it is used in a residential environment (for which CISPR 11 class B is
7
normally required) the system might not offer adequate protection to radio-
frequency communication services.
The user might need to take mitigation measures, such as relocating or re-
orienting the system. 7

Deterministic effects may occur when radiation dose on certain organs or body tissues
exceeds the threshold. The areas of interest of diagnostic radiology are the skin and
the crystalline lens. The threshold at which a deterministic effect occurs on these body
tissues is 1 Gy to 3 Gy.
The operator must control exposure dose properly in consideration of the above, when
using the equipment.
7
Do NOT operate this equipment if there is any uncertainty as to the
proper functioning of the system. refer all servicing to qualified service
personnel. 7
7
The operator must set the focal spot to skin distance as large as possible
in order to keep the absorbed does to the patient as low as reasonably
achievable.
