Quotes on the 5 Pillars of Islam

1. Declaration of faith (Shahadah)

thousand months.’

Nature of God
Muslims believe in the oneness of God, known as Tawhid. Islam teaches that God (Allah) is
transcendent, that Allah is above and beyond anything that exists in the world. Muslims reject any
notion that God would have a son.

‘He is God the One, God the eternal. He begot no one nor was He begotten. No one is comparable to
Him.’

‘His mercy takes precedence over his wrath.’

‘He is able to do all things.’

‘Is Allah not the best of judges?’

‘The Beneficent is established on the throne.’

Angels
Important here are the stories about Angel Jibril and Mika’il. Angel Jibril (known in Christianity as the
Angel Gabriel) always brings good news, the Angel of Revelation. Michael, the Angel Mika’il, is a
friend to humanity believed to reward people who do good deeds, the Angel of Mercy.

Angel Jibril revealed Allah’s words (the Quran) to Muhammad on the Night of Power. This was the
night when Prophet Muammad received his first revelation of the Quran.
Angel Jibril appeared to Maryam (known in Christianity is known as Mary). Jibril told her she was
pregnant with Isa, or Jesus.

‘We do not descend except for the command of the Lord.’

‘Each person has angels before him and behind, watching over him by God’s command’

'They exalt him night and day and do not slacken' (Quran 21:20)

Prophethood
Key are the stories about Prophet Adam (Ibrahim) and Prophet Muhammad. Jesus is also believed to
be a prophet in Islam. Muslims believe that Prophet Muhammad was the final prophet of Islam.

‘Muhammad is not the father of any one of you men, he is God’s messenger and the seal of the
prophets’.

‘Every community is sent a Messenger.’

‘I’m going to make a human out of clay.’

‘God took Ibrahim as a friend.’

Holy Books
Muslims believe that God revealed holy books to a number of His messengers. These include the
Quran (given to Muhammad), the Torah (given to Moses), the Gospel (given to Jesus), the Psalms
(given to David), and the Scrolls (given to Abraham).

‘This is the scripture of which there can be no doubt.’

‘Verily this is the earliest scripture, the scripture of Ibrahim and Musa.’

Life after death

In Islam, it is believed that when a person dies, the soul enters the state of waiting until the Day of
Judgement. Heaven and Hell are core concepts, known as Paradise (Jannah) and Hell (Jahannam).

‘He gives life and causes death, to Him you will be returned.’

‘Fear the fire which has been prepared for those who reject faith.’

‘The righteous will have gardens in Paradise beneath which river flow.’
