Spring 2024 - CS601 - 1 - SOL

The document provides instructions for an assignment on data communication topics including analog and digital signals and line coding schemes. It includes two questions, the first asks to calculate the frequency of electromagnetic waves given the wavelength, the second asks to complete a partial NRZ-L encoding table by providing missing bit values.

Assignment No.

01 Total Marks: 20
Semester: Spring 2024
CS601: Data Communication Due Date: 30th April 2024

Instructions:
Please read the following instructions carefully before submitting assignment:
You need to use MS word document to prepare and submit the assignment on VU-LMS.
It should be clear that your assignment will not get any credit if:

 The assignment is submitted after due date.

 The assignment is not in the required format (doc or docx).
 The submitted assignment does not open or file is corrupt.
 Assignment is copied (partial or full) from any source (websites, forums, students, etc.).

Objective:

To enhance the learning capabilities of the students about:

 Analog and Digital Signals

 Line Coding Schemes
Question No. 1

Scenario:

You're a radio technician in TBN broadcast and you are tasked with calibrating a newly installed radio
transmitter. The transmitter emits electromagnetic waves with a wavelength of 3 meters. However, the frequency
needs adjustment to ensure optimal broadcasting.

Assignment Task: Calculate the frequency of the electromagnetic waves emitted by the transmitter. Show your
calculation process and provide the final frequency value.

Solution:

Wavelength (λ) = 3 meters

We know the formula relating wavelength, frequency, and the speed of light (c): λ=c

λ=c / f

Rearranging the formula to solve for frequency (f):

f=c / λ

Speed of light (c) in a vacuum is approximately 3×108 meters per second.

Substitute the given values into the formula:

f=3×108 / 3

f=1×108 Hz

Therefore, the frequency of the electromagnetic waves emitted by the transmitter is 100 MHz.

Question No. 2

Given below is a partial snapshot of NRZ-L encoding scheme in which signal is complete but relevant bit values
are missing.

You need to analyze this encoding scheme and provide the missing bit values in the given table:
Missing Bit No. 1 2 3 4 5 6
Bit Value

Solution:
Complete NRZ-L encoding diagram:

Missing Bit No. 1 2 3 4 5 6

Bit Value 1 0 1 0 1 0

Best of Luck!
