Madd:
In Arabic, the term "( "مدMadd) can be defined as َتـْطِويل
(taṭwīl), which means elongation or prolongation. In the
context of Tajweed, Madd involves prolonging the
pronunciation of certain vowels.
Huroof e Maddah:
Madd means to stretch a sound and there are 3 Madd
letters which are ا – و –ي.
When there is a Damma before wow sakin we stretach it for
two counts and it is called wow Madd. When there is a
Fatha before alif we stretch it for two counts and it is called
Alif Madd.

Types of Madd in Tajweed:
1.Madd Asli/Tabi’y or Natural Madd
2.Madd Far’ee or Secondary Madd
Natural Madd:
"Natural Madd" refers to the elongation of a vowel due
to the presence of a silent (sakin) alif, waaw, or yaa. This
occurs when one of these letters is followed by a hamzah (
)ءor a sukoon (no vowel mark). The elongation is natural
and occurs without any additional markings.

When there is a wow sukoon and the letter before
has a fatha we read the wow softly and it is called wow leen.

When there is a ya sukoon and the letter before has a
fatha we read the ya softly and it is called ya leen.

Qalqalah:
Qalqalah linguistically means
shaking/disturbance.Its an echoing sound of pronouncing
certain characters with the Sukoon Symbol on them or when
one stops at these characters. They require the tones to be
strong and create an echoing sound.
