1.0. Introduction
Quality of life is related to several factors, but none of them is as important for maintaining
health as food. Nutrition begins in intrauterine life, so it is essential that the pregnant woman
receives adequate nutrition, as the mother transfers the nutrients necessary for its development to
the baby.
In early childhood, many changes occur in the child and very quickly. Consequently, nutritional
deficiencies at this stage can be responsible for irreparable damage. The main ones are related to
cognitive development, impairing school learning, and bone formation, altering the growth
process and possibly causing bone deformities and short stature, since this is the main phase of
calcium absorption by the body.
Food should be the primary means of meeting our nutritional needs for vitamins, minerals and
macronutrients such as protein. The use of supplements should occur judiciously and only under
medical or nutritional prescription.
Thus, the aim of this work is to address health and nutrition. In terms of structure, the work is
organized as follows: introduction, objectives, methodology, development, conclusion and
bibliographical references
1.1. Objectives
General
Specific
1.2. Methodology
For the materialization of the work, information was searched in available physical and virtual
works duly cited in the text and in the bibliographical references, analysis of consulted
information culminating in the compilation of information and final production of the work.

2.0. Health
Health means the state of normal functioning of the human body. To be healthy is to live in good
physical and mental disposition. (Santos, 2000).
In addition to the good disposition of the body and mind, the WHO (World Health Organization)
includes in the definition of health, the social well-being among individuals.
An individual's health can be determined by human biology itself, by the physical, social and
economic environment to which he is exposed and by his lifestyle, that is, by eating habits and
other behaviors that can be beneficial or harmful.
Good health is associated with increased quality of life. It is known that a balanced diet, regular
practice of physical exercises and emotional well-being are determining factors for a balanced
state of health.
On the other hand, people who are exposed to precarious living conditions, do not have basic
sanitation (water, cleaning, sewage, etc.), adequate medical assistance, quality food and water,
etc., have their health seriously affected.
2.1. Nutrition
Nutrition is a biological process in which organisms (animals, fungi, vegetables and micro-
organisms), using food, assimilate nutrients to carry out their vital functions.(Santos, 2000).
Good nutrition depends on a regular and balanced diet - that is, you need to provide your body's
cells with not only the right amount but also the right variety of nutrients that are important for
their proper functioning. The best known food guides are the food pyramids.
Nutrition is part of the life of every human being, with the intake of healthy foods, the body
receives the nutrients, vitamins and minerals necessary to maintain proper functioning, including
preventing diseases such as obesity, anemia, diabetes, among others.

Eating is much more than eating food. While the habit of eating is just a kind of “supply”, the
action of eating correctly is to use the components present in the food to keep the body perfectly
balanced and taking advantage of the benefits of its components, thus making the so-called
nutrition.
Going far beyond the ability to keep the body alive, food plays an essential role, as it is through
eating the right foods that the body receives the nutrients, vitamins and minerals it needs to
maintain its proper functioning and prevent diseases such as anemia, obesity, type 2 diabetes,
stroke, among others. (Castro, 2004).
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends, through the Global Strategy for the
Promotion of Healthy Eating, Physical Activity and Health, that governments formulate and
periodically update national guidelines on food and nutrition, taking into account changes in
eating habits and health conditions of the population and progress in scientific knowledge.
Each person is unique, has their own DNA, and individualized nutrient needs. This need goes far
beyond the caloric amount, so the food that serves one may not be the best for another. Focus on
nutrients, not just calories.
Everything we eat also has a great impact on brain function, which can interfere with mood,
thinking, behavior, memory, learning and cell aging.
If we don't eat food correctly, the body will need to use reserves for the brain to function. The
brain will seek reserves from other places, such as hair and nails. If this happens, the body will
be weakened and there will be low immunity, and there may be hair loss and nail breakage.
With the change in routine due to social isolation, maintaining a healthy diet during the
pandemic is even more difficult. Therefore, many people opt for ultra-processed foods or order
food from restaurants for convenience, however this attitude can be harmful to health.
Social isolation can also generate anxiety and food compulsions in many people, which harms
both physical and mental health. At this point, you need to be extra careful with hygiene and also
with healthy eating, as keeping immunity strengthened is essential to prevent the emergence or
worsening of diseases.
